Milk Snub

We have been trying whole milk for about a month now, but my son won't drink it out of a sippy cup. He will take it in his cereal or with an eye dropper. He used to drink it if it was in a "big boy cup", but that no longer works. He likes cheese and yogurt. He is a little underweight and needs the fat/calories. The pediatrician suggested soy milk or toddler formula (he was exclusively breastfed), but I don't feel that it is a matter of him not liking it. I also don't want to drop my last 2 nursings if that is the only milk he gets. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice? I am at my wit's end!!

Re: Milk Snub

  • I am in a similar boat. DS2 will only drink whole milk if he thinks it belongs to someone else.  He will drink it from my cup or steal his sister's sippy cup, but if I try to just give him some in a sippy or regular cup he turns his nose up at it.

  • After I stopped breastfeeding, we introduced a bottle although our little one drinks water out of a sippy cup all day long. She now drinks 1 8 oz cow's milk bottle in the am and 1 8 oz cow's milk bottle in the pm. Initially, we added a smidge of formula too as it's sweeter, but have moved over to just cow's milk now. The rest of the time it's stealing my water or drinking out of her own sippy cup. Maybe she finds the bottle more like breastfeeding? No idea, but it works for us. Good luck!
