Baby Laundry Detergent

Anyone planning on using Dreft detergent? Most of my family members use dreft for their baby. Any of you second time moms have any suggestions on what and how to wash baby items where they won't get dingy and shrink. also, what kind of dryer sheets are recommended for babies? It seems like I have a major problem with my clothes getting dingy and shrinking, although I mainly use Tide.

I have heard that Dreft has a lot of strong chemicals so I am trying Babyganics and the Honest laundry detergent instead. I have samples of both. As far as dingy clothes the only thing that made a difference for me was buying certain brands that hold up better than others. I noticed a few brands just do not last in the wash but others were worth maybe spending a little more. Hope that helps!

I just use tide free and clear like I do for the whole family. Draft has a lot of crap in it.

Ok, I just assumed that Dreft was the norm for most moms.....does anyone know what doctors recommend?

I used dreft with dd but only bc I got a ton of it at my shower. I use tide free and clear now and will use it for this baby. I also got some honest company pods to try out. I dont think dr recommend anything specific just something that is gentle since their skin is so sensitive. Dds skin couldn't take the harsh scents and would get rashes when she was a newborn.

All Free and Clear is much more recommended than Dreft because there aren't any perfumes or dyes. Also, many of the natural brands like Honest are much better now than they were a few years ago.

And I've noticed that washing my clothes with All Free and Clear or other natural cleaners help keep clothes newer looking because they don't have all the chemicals which is what causes fabric thinning and fading... That and cool or warm water, not hot.

I have used Dreft in the past but I am using All free and clear this time around. It has less chemicals then the others.

Is it ok to try different detergents for baby? I don't want it to harm baby' skin.

My oldest was not sensitive. I was able to use what ever was sale. I used homemade with my youngest (so cheap and easy to make) as she got older switched to tide and we have stuck with it. Another great natural cleaner is biokleen and it works great. My dr. And pedi advised against dreft because of price. Told me to use what we normally use and switch if a noticeable rash appears on baby of course

My SIL is a pedi and actually makes her own detergent now. But before she started doing that she just used Tide Free and Clear for all of her laundry. We do the same.

Tide free and clear with downy free and clear.
Dreft has colors and scents and it was a pain in the ass to sort baby clothes from adult clothes. You get puked on- you just want to put it all in the washer and be done with it.

We got a bunch of dreft at baby shower and switched as soon as we ran out.

I only use laundry detergents and skin care products that say "dermatologist tested." I will use Babyganics and tide free and clear. Anything else who knows how baby or ME will react to it haha. If it says "recommended" that is not the same. When I sold Arbonne I learned that all dermatologist/pediatrician recommended means is that the docs gave out samples and signed that the recommend it. Tested means they actually tested it out and approve!! This is why I use Burt's bees and not aveeno baby stuff. Aveeno is derm recommended, Burt's bees is derm tested. Dreft is not derm tested. It's popular tho bc it gets out stains well. My detergent for stains? Tide free and clear which is derm tested.

We just use Honest laundry tablets now and I'll get non scented softner. So much easier to just was everyone's laundry with the same detergent.

I agree with most about deft being so spendy. I like all free and clear until they are older and you can see how their skin reacts

We use tide free and clear here too. When you think about it, the baby spends so much time against your clothes (like when you hold them or use carriers) that any detergent you use will get on them. Also I had read that softner (both liquid and sheets) isn't good to use on babies and toddlers clothes because it reduces the flame retardancy on them. Something to consider.

I started with tide free and clear and no fabric softener. Then eventually I started using regular tide and fabric softener. As a new mom I was way more cautious and particular about things than I am now.

Tide free all the way! I wash all baby stuff daily to keep them from getting gross. I wash their dirty clothes, cloths, my puked on shirts and any thing else that has been babied daily even though it is a super small load normally. I also do cloth diapers daily do maybe I am just crazy.

We just use the Sam's club member's mark brand of detergent. I love getting the one that is it those little pods- already pre portioned- 1 per load. Huge money saver for sure. It's so easy to over use when you have it in complete liquid form. With the 5th kid on the way I'm all about saving money.

If you plan on using a certain detergent for baby you should use it for everyone because baby will be laying on you and SO and such. We used All free and clear and will do it with this one as well. She never had any problems with it.

Last time around I started off just using what I use normally - if it wasn't a problem, why mess around with something special? It was a "free and clear", fwiw. And it didn't cause any issues at all.
I'll be doing the same this time around (have a load of hand-me-downs washing as we speak!), though I now use a DIY detergent so we'll see how it goes. If I have to get something else for baby clothes, I will. But if I don't, I won't!

I use dreft spray for stains and such but other than that I just use regular detergent just the free and clear one so the scents don't bother the skin.
