Spelling of baby girl name

Im going to name baby girl Arya or Aria. The inspiration is from Arya Stark from game of thrones. I'm well aware there is an Aria on pretty little liars (which I've never seen). My question is, regardless of the tv show character I want to know which spelling makes sense and is less confusing. I'm sure either one is just fine but I don't take this lightly and I really want opinions please :) Arya, or Aria

Re: Spelling of baby girl name

  • First it's totally up to you what you want. I haven't watched game of thrones...I know I know. I have no cable lol

Anyway the one that struck me first was Arya. In my head, is it pronounced AR ee A?

  • I really like this name and game of thrones :) i personally like the spelling Aria.
  • We are naming our girl Arya/Aria as well, but not connected to the show. I've loved the meanings of the various spellings for a long time. She is my single best creation of art. I go back and forth on the spelling. I prefer one way, DH the other. Sigh. In the end she'll have a name that is elegant and still not over used. Good choice, momma!
  • Aria to me is by far the easiest to pronounce correctly if you just had to look at spelling alone. I just feel like 'Arya' doesn't even sound like 'Aria.' I feel like there should be some sort of 'y' sound in it even though there's not. Between the two I'd personally go with Aria.
  • I would spell it Aria but I have a friend who spells her daughters name Arya. Sorry I am not much help! Lol

  • I personally like aria over arya. But in the end it's what ever you feel suits her best, and whatever makes you and your SO happy. :)
  • I know someone with the Y version and it's pronounced Uh-rye-uh. Don't know if that's helpful!
  • We are naming our daughter Aria. I personally do not like it with a y instead of an i. It just seems out of place.

  • Aria seems like it would be easier for people to read an pronounce correctly

  • Thanks everyone. This is really SO helpful. I'm a person born with a name that is hard to say/pronounce and even spell simply because of spelling so it totally matters :)
  • Arya looks like 2 syllables to me- Are-Ya. If you want Arr-ee-uh, I would go with Aria.

  • I had my first DD when I was fairly young (20) and I fell in love with a name that I thought would be cute and light, as well as pretty. It has a damn accent in it so she is NEVER called by the correct name at school or doctors etc. So my point is, that is a beautiful name you're going with and I totally agree about going with the most clear and simple way to spell it ❤️
