weight gain concern.

I just had my 28 week checkup along with the lovely glucose test today. When they weighed me I was up a total 20lbs! Dr. Is a little concerned. She said I'm about a littlw heavier than she would like to see me. Thing is i dont look like i gained any weight besides my boobs and In my tummy.. I am still in the same pants size, I'm not swollen in the face legs feet or hands. What should I do to keep from gaining too much more??!?? I eat relatively healthy, lots of fruits and veggies. I feel disgusted with myself now
:(
On the plus side she did say I'm super lucky that I have not a single stretch mark :)

Re: weight gain concern.

  • 20 pounds at 28 weeks is not a lot and surely nothing to be concerned about. I wish doctors would stop freaking people out. Some people gain more some people gain less. If you're eating healthy, drinking lots of water, and staying somewhat active then you're fine. Embrace it :)

  • I unfortunately cannot be as active as I would like.. I was put on early maternity leave, and have problems standing or walking too long because my hips like to give out.. I walk around the house or go to the store, but cannot even do household chores w.o being in pain.. I push through it and try to do it in small steps. But it sucks. That is the only issue I have had. No nausea or any other pregnancy problems. Its been a breeze. She is normally so happy with me and everything, never lectured me till today.. I wasn't a "small" girl before, and I was okay with that.. Now I feel blah because of that concern she has and the weight gain.
  • I wouldn't worry too much I think they say the ideal weight gain is 25 lbs. But then if something happens, say your milk comes in early, your going to have extra weight there. I have only gained 10 lbs as of my 31 week appointment but I also work a very physical job! Dont worry about it, everyone is different.
  • If your eating healthy and drinking plenty of water. I wish I was more healthy. I don't eat anything green.

I've gained 28.6 pounds at 32 weeks. Much more than my last one, but still nothing over the top. They say 25-35 total if you were healthy before. You still have 15 pounds to go and 10-12 weeks. You could gain a pound every week and still be fine.
  • I had about an eight pound weight gain between appointments around 24 weeks which freaked me out a little. I tried to get out for a few more walks, cut down on sugar, etc., but nothing major, and it's all evened out. After that I had a several week stretch where I barely gained any weight. For me it seems to just kind of ebb and flow depending on when baby seems to be having a growth spurt too.

  • How much you gain is so different for each person that no one can really say what's healthy for you, except maybe your doctor. So listen to your doctor and do the best you can. The recent research says if you are overweight before pregnancy, they say 0-15 pounds or something like that. This may be what your doctor is following. I gained 15 total with my first pregnancy but lost 35 after a few weeks postpartum. This pregnancy I have gained nothing because of GD has made me strict on my diet.

  • I just had my 28 week appt and glucose test today. I'm up 26lbs. I've gained more than my doctor would like. No I don't eat the best but i try to stay active by walking the treadmill every night along with chasing a toddler. Sometimes your body just gains weight during pregnancy no matter what you do. I gained 53lbs with my first pregnancy. I lost all but 10 of that before this pregnancy. Try not to stress over it.
