Care.com

Hello! I am looking to hire a nanny this summer and have heard mixed reviews on care.com. Can anyone share their experiences using the site (good & bad) and whether it's worth the fee to contact potential candidates? Thanks in advance!

Re: Care.com

  • I actually babysat for a few families on care.com and just recently posted a job for our LO. You can still post jobs and applicants can apply for it without any fees. I met a lot of great families when I used it to find babysitting/nanny jobs. Always meet in a public place when doing interviews just to be as safe as possible.

  • We found our nanny on care.com (she watches our two little ones while we work). I would recommend posting a job and then waiting until you have an application that actually seems like a potential fit before paying the fee to be able to contact them. The site is all in what you make of it. Unfortunately there are some sketchy people on the site but ultimately the decision is up to you. We took advantage of the background check, required face to face interview and 3 references. Obviously I wouldn't recommend hiring someone without meeting them and learning about their background. Saying all of that- I am very happy with the young lady that we found on the site.

P.S. Google coupon codes to use when and if you decide to pay for the membership- I found one and only paid like $20. Then you can cancel the membership when you find someone. Good luck!!!

  • Thank you! Very helpful :)
  • I've been working for a family that I found on Care.com since September, it's been a great match! I know they've found other nannies through the website as well, and had a great experience with it (one of those girls works every summer when she's off school).
I recommend requiring background check, face-to-face interviews (get a better sense of who they are than on Internet...and they can see how they think they'd fit in with your family as well), and recommendations. If you have older kids bring them to interview if you are comfortable, you can see how they interact!
