Any runners out there?

12 weeks along here with my first baby. Used to love running and would go a few times a week, but I haven't had any energy to exercise at all for about the last 8 weeks. Starting to get some energy back and would love to try going for a run. Has anyone else been going consistently in pregnancy? My doctor said if you worked out before you were pregnant you could work out during. Just hoping I have the energy!!

I too have been struggling to keep up with my running and I was in the habit of 25+ miles per week. I went for 6 last weekend and was terribly short of breath. Not looking good for the half I have at the end of April.

  • I was able to do the goofy challenge(39.3 miles) in mid jan, at 5 weeks pregnant. Then massive fatigue and extreme cold hit and I haven't gotten out for a run since then :(. My doc says I can continue running. I'm hoping that now since I'm in the second trimester I will have the energy to at least go out for a couple miles a few times a week. I've been told exercising during pregnancy makes labor somewhat easier, so I really would like to get back into a somewhat normal routine. Although I do know I have to slow my pace down and go for shorter rather than longer runs.
  • I'm the same as you unfortunately. I stopped running mostly around The beginning of December due to cold. Now it's getting warm again and I want to get out there! I'm planning on running/walking whatever I feel like for an hour or so this week.
  • I am an avid runner (40-45 miles a week) or...was...until fatigue and morning sickness kicked in around week 6...which caused 3-4 miles to feel impossible! I'm now just approaching 12 weeks and finally feeling a bit more myself...but I have a feeling that running is only going to get harder from here on out!!!
  • I used to love running before I got pregnant I change it to walks and some exercises after my doctor recommended it for me.My husband was against my running too :( over protective for no reason ! Even tho I am not running any more I am still enjoying exercising..... hopefully i can do it till very end kkkkkkkkkkk

Still running here.. Can't wait for warmer weather so I can log more kms.. I'm doing 5-8k runs now a couple times a week.. I also do T25, strength train - a lot if core and leg work.. And I play hockey..
Hoping to complete a couple races this summer:)
Keep up the good work girls!
  • I was keeping up with my running until week 9, when the exhaustion caught up with me. I went on a run last week at 12 weeks and it felt okay. I think my exhaustion is going away, but my pace is quite a bit slower. I'm going to try doing 2-3 miles 2-3 days a week, which should be really easy for me. I am registered for a half in mid April, but think I'll have to skip it. Until week 9, I was sure I'd be able to do it.

I had to stop during my first trimester as I had zero energy. My last run was at Christmas when I was in Florida and I finally had energy to go on Sunday for 30ish minutes for 2.75 miles! It was very slow going and it took till after the first mile to not feel like I had bricks for feet and I walked another mile with my puppy after I was done. My hips, hip flexors, and glutes were sooooo sore a couple days later, but I really missed that feeling. It felt great! I'm hoping to go out again today after work with the pup as we're run training her and her endurance for anything more than a mile is not there. We went for a 2 mile walk Monday and all she wanted to do was find puddles to drink out of after 1.25 miles, but she'll get there. She's a 9 month old Aussie mix so she can have the endurance if we work on it.

  • Between week 7-9 I was able to do much but work and sleep.    Everytime I would try to work out I'd get nauseous.

I run and play hockey (doctor OK'd it for now) and I found eating something sugary (Fruit To Go, Dried Fruit, or smoothie) between periods had helped.  My team has been looking at me really weird though for snacking - I'm very excited to tell them in a couple of weeks"Surprise I haven't been playing alone for the last 3 months!"

Running has been ok as long as its short (5 km I'm Canadian so about ? 3.10 miles).  I'm finding I get sore easier now and tired. I'm adding more stretching to my workouts. I don't push myself as hard either.
