When is the right time for date night?

So my hubby and I scheduled date night for this week Friday — LO is 14 weeks (just over three months). The sitter who is watching him was his PT nanny since he was 2 months, so she knows him well. But whenever she's been here, I've been home. On our date  night, we'll be a five minute walk away (we're just going to have dinner at a spot a few doors down from our house) — but I'm so nervous! My friends with kids tell me three months is a good time to start date nights and focus on reconnecting with your spouse about something other than being parents.

Has anyone else done their first date night since baby?

Re: When is the right time for date night?

  • The first time we left our son with grandparents was at four weeks and that was a daytime date. Since then we've had grandparents over to our house twice in the evening while we've gone out with friends. It definitely helps us to feel like a couple again!

In two weeks (he'll be 15 weeks) he'll go for his first overnight at my parents' house. I anticipate missing him like crazy and wanting to pick him up at 10pm!

  • We went out for a drink and a bite to eat alone when our LO was one week. We try to do a date every week. We are very lucky to have two sets of grandparents happy to babysit. It's so important that you have couple time.
  • Early and often. We try to go once a month.

  • Thank you all!! I was feeling guilty for scheduling a date night (I'd already rescheduled it twice!) but you guys have made me feel like I should go and enjoy it! :)
