Re: Swollen hands and feet

  • I am 27 weeks with twins and I've noticed my fingers are a bit swollen and my feet are feeling really sore, I have bright red heels and the balls of me feet are aching. I've read it's totally normal and it's because your uterus is swollen and pushing on the viens that send blood to your extremities causing blood to pool. Keep moving and drink lots of water.

  • Make sure you are propping your feet up when they are swelling (if you can). A little swelling is normal, but you don't want to have too much. Be sure to check your blood pressure from time to time as well. High blood pressure can cause severe swelling. Severe swelling in the hands and feet can be a sign of preeclampsia so just make sure you are keeping an eye on your blood pressure :) hope this helps and I hope your swelling stays minimal.
  • My hands have been swelling off and on, seems normal.

  • I had a lot of swelling last time around. Unfortunately, it just got worse until I delivered. Not much you can do about it but elevate your feet (if you have swollen megs), drink lots of water, and watch your diet and salt intake. Be sure to mention it to your doctor next time you go in.

  • Yes. Completely normal. Read the daily symptoms and you will see this commonly reported
  • My feet swelling is a done deal. It happens after I've been on my feet for just a couple of hours (they were swollen when I got home from bowling, which was 3 hours of sitting AND standing / moving). But, I already had problems with my feet prior to pregnancy (very weak, arthritic ankles, next to no arch in the foot). My hands have recently begun to swell a bit sometimes. I can still slide my rings on and off, but they'll be tight on there. My left seems to swell more than my right, for some reason. I haven't found any correlating behaviors that cause them to swell tho. I'll just notice they're a little puffy. It is on the list of things to being to my OB at my appt this Thursday.

  • Yes, hand swelling. I'm officially nervous about putting on my wedding band. I'm worried I'm gonna lose a finger!

  • @KonaCoffeeBean have you seen the YouTube videos of how people remove rings from swollen fingers using dental floss? It let me stop frantically pulling my rings off and on all day every day, since I know how to get them off now if it happens.
  • I agree with PP - some swelling is normal and to be expected. Hell I haven't been able to wear my wedding rings for the past month. Haha
But you do have to be careful bc quick / super swelling can be a sign of preeclampsia.

@amark11 I saw that YouTube too! Unfortunately it was at 3 am when I woke up in a panic bc I couldn't get my ring off !!!! I tried the floss thing and it just made it worse... I ended up having to snip it off with wire cutters.. Thank god it wasn't a special one! Then again idk why but my hands and feet are super swollen .. So maybe that was why it was extra difficult... Just thought I would share :)
  • Very normal.. Long as BP is ok, and no other symptoms like visual disturbance , headaches, upper belly pain
