Low Iron--anyone else?!

Hi Moms--this is my first time posting. I am a FTM and 27weeks. I just got my 1 hour glucose test results back and they came back normal :) thank goodness bc I did not want to do the 3 hour test. But the dr mentioned I was slightly anemic and need to take an Otc iron pill. Just wondering if any other mommies out there have been found to have low iron?! Also, I was surprised my prenatal vitamin didn't have iron. Anyone else notice the same?! Thanks :)

Re: Low Iron--anyone else?!

  • I'm low in iron - always have been - and take iron supplements in addition to the prenatal vitamin. Some tips my doctor shared with me include: take them with vitamin c, avoid teas with tannins in them and you should see a boost of energy. If I don't take the supplements regularily I get nasty headaches and am exhausted!

  • Thank you for the tips :)
  • I'm also low iron, always have been.y doctor said that iron supplements during pregnancy can have even more of an impact on bowels and can cause a lot of discomfort. Instead, I am just eating a lot of iron-rich foods. I'm adding spinach to my smoothies, having quinoa with berries and almond milk as a snack instead of cereal and eating more iron rich meats. So far it's been doing the trick and helping me maintain my levels. If I go any lower though, supplements may be in my future.
