Any STM+ out there that have had a breast reduction?

I'm a FTM and I'm wondering if any STM+ have had a breast reduction and if it impacted your ability to breastfeed.  I know it's different for every person, but just wanted to see if anyone has any experience with this.  I've spoken with a lactation consultant and she said I am showing good signs of being able to breastfeed (increase in size since becoming pregnant, still have sensation, not much was removed in the reduction).  She's also given me her recommendations to help maximize the possibility to breastfeed, so I'm hoping those will work.

Anyway, if anyone can share their experience, it'd be great to hear!  Thanks!!

Re: Any STM+ out there that have had a breast reduction?

  • Hi there! Yes, I had a breast reduction and yes, it did affect me and my lactation specialist told me the same thing initially. I was unable to produce milk past 8 weeks and I was supplementing along the way. With this one, I will be more prepared and less critical of myself. Best advice I can give is to not be hard on yourself if you can't breastfeed as long as you'd like and don't let the lactation specialists make you feel guilty. You and baby will be great either way!

  • I'm in the same boat - waiting to see.  I've been reading up on some of the stories and recommendations from this site:  https://www.bfar.org/index.shtml

I plan on asking my OB about seeing their lactation specialist my next visit, and see if we can get a plan in order.
