Forgot to take progesterone! Has anyone else?

Im 12 wks and still taking progesterone 3 TIMES A DAY! Been doing it since 5 weeks and it's gotten so old. I keep forgetting to take a dose so i'll end up taking it twice a day instead. I figured i'm 12 wks so i shouldn't really need it but it still makes me freak out. Anyone forget to take theirs?

Re: Forgot to take progesterone! Has anyone else?

  • I am in the same boat and I've forgotten to take it too, but I was also told that we can stop taking it altogether between 12 and 14 weeks, so I wouldn't worry about it. I think you're OK!

  • ok, cool. I'll probably keep taking it for the next 2 wks but I guess i don't have to stress if i miss a dose. I always thought 3 times a day was a lot anyways but of course, doctor knows best.
  • I don't take this and it wasn't recommended for me to. Hmmmmm why do YOU take it?

  • How many times a day depends on how much you need. My doctor strongly advises 12 wks or longer. Having said that she is letting me stop a few days early .
If I miss a dose I just push back the next dose, I try and take them every 8 hours
  • Whoa, 3 times a day! I only do it once at night and detest it - I even have a countdown on my phone to when I can stop! At this point your body is probably producing plenty of progesterone on its own - how far along are you? Nearly done with 12 weeks?
  • But why do you have to take it??

I took one a day and stopped at 12 weeks. If I missed one I don't recall.

@twinamato I can't speak for the OP but I took it due to a history of miscarriage that was due to low progesterone. I don't produce enough progesterone before the placenta begins to produce it, at around 10-12 weeks.
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • I take it for the same reason.
  • I was on it for the same reasons as above and my RE told me to stop at 8 weeks.  I also kept forgetting and was only taking it twice a day usually :-/
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • I missed one or two doses and all was fine :)
  • I am taking them throughout my pregnancy for incompetent cervix
  • You should be totally fine. I have taken with two pregnancies and stopped both at 12 weeks because by then the placenta has taken over
  • I take it for same reasons (previous miscarriages) but my RE is allowing me to drop to once a day (i'm 11w) and drop all together at 13. Placenta has taken over. It is freaking me out a bit about stopping. I think you're ok if you miss 1-2 but def find a system to remember! It's so important. Maybe set a timer on your phone?

I took it once a day up until 12 weeks. I missed it once or twice and all is fine.

Progesterone is fat soluble (which is why it is administered in oil for injections) unlike water soluble nutrients like Vitamin C. So I would think it should stick around in your body, meaning the levels shouldn't just drop off if you miss a dose. Eitherway, I would recommend talking to your health care professional or pharmacists about the correct protocol if you miss a dose in the future. (Do you take it right away? Do you take two at the same time? Do you skip it?)

I took progesterone as an injection due to having a FET. I stopped last Friday (start of week 10).

I take it for the same reason. I only have to take it twice a day. My levels were super low at 6 weeks and I had just had a miscarriage 2months prior. Progesterone is the hormone you usually naturally produce that "makes things stick" it helps keep baby implanted. I only have to take it through 12 weeks because the placenta should have taken over by then.
