Anyone else still have an inside baby?

I'm 41 weeks and 1 day now. The emotional up and down of all these early contractions starting and stopping is really exhausting. I had my membranes swept yesterday and felt awful cramping and contractions all day. I thought for sure I'd be in labor before waking up and now everything appears to have stalled again. I'm watching a lot of bad tv on Hulu and feeling so useless. How are the rest of you keeping sane?

Re: Anyone else still have an inside baby?

  • Yeah, me too. I'm 41+0. Had an u/s today to determine if the level of fluid was normal, which is was, so they're gonna let me go another week before trying to induce. I'm ready for it to happen already, but if LO needs a few more days then I can live with that too.

In the meantime I've been making some extra freezer meals, watching some of my favorite shows on netflix and playing classics computer games that I know I won't get to play for a while. I also sleep a lot.

  • I'm 41+1 and go today for NST and fluid check with Dr appointment afterwards. They won't sweep me because I tested positive for GBS. Today will be my first internal exam too.

I don't want to be induced so I'm hoping everything checks out okay and they give me until next week. As long as he is okay then I can be patient (though that is proving to be more difficult every day).
  • I'm 40+6 today. I had an appt yesterday and still wasn't dialated at all, so no sweep but we set an induction for early tomorrow morning. I'm nervous about the induction procedure but so ready to meet my little girl. I really can't believe I'll finally have a baby by the end if this weekend. Hugs and well wishes for safe and happy deliveries to everyone still with inside babies!! We're almost there!
  • I feel for you ladies! I originally was in January 15 moms but didn't deliver until 42.1. I can hardly believe I have a 3 week old now!
  • Hi. I'm 41 weeks 4 days. At my last appointment I was 90% effaced but not dialated, they checked her heart rate and fluid levels. Going back in Monday & hoping for a change.
After induction how long does it take to give birth?
  • I was induced and had contractions for 18 hours. I was stalled at 9cm and stage -1 for 6 hours. By the 18th hour, the merconium began coming out and I was taken for a c section. Every induction is different and yours will hopefully go smoother than mine! Be sure to eat and drink before hand. I had to go almost 48 hours with no food or drink! Best wishes!

Everyone is different. I was in labor a total of 2.5 days, but only in active labor for about 12 hours before it stalled and they took me for an emergency cesarean. As long as you're progressing at a good pace and the baby isn't getting stressed, your BP looks good, and your fluid levels are fine, they'll most likely let you labor for as long as it takes. Or, your doctor may pitch the idea of a c-section to you after some time has passed, and you can choose to take it or keep laboring. My doctor pitched it to me about an hour and a half before it became an emergency, but to hold off for over an hour was HER idea, not mine. I was all for having it done when she suggested because I knew labor had stalled and I could tell something was wrong with baby when I could only lay on my left side without her vitals dropping. So, just see how it goes. When it's time to deliver, its time to deliver. Could be 6 hours after induction, could be 36 hours after. You never know until it happens.

  • @jennlouviere Both my kids were induced. My first took a total of 16 hours but 6 hours active labor and. My second was much faster a total of 8 hours, 5 hours of active labor and 3 pushes. Both of mine were at -2 station, 80% effaced and dilated 2 when I started Pitocin. Both of mine were positive experiences. Hopefully, yours is fast and easy too!
  • I hope all your little ones arrive soon! I've crossed over from inside baby to outside as of yesterday. Truly amazing! You'll be there so soon!! And despite being 8 days over, my midwife thinks she was right on time. Still covered in vernix and a mere 7 pounds.
  • 41 + 6!!!! Midwife to send me off for testing this week, really wishing he would just make his appearance beforehand
  • Was due 2/26 and have induction set for tomorrow (3/10). I don't want an induction so I am still praying that I go into labor on my own tonight.
  • Thinking of you all! I went 42 weeks to the day with DD, and it was a real emotional rollercoaster. Whether they're actually "late" or not, when someone doesn't show up to a birthday you spent mine months planning, you get kind of pissed off!!
