Fundal Height

Anyone's fundal height not match their weeks. I'm 31 weeks and my doctor said my fundal height was only 29, so I have an ultrasound next week.

Re: Fundal Height

  • Fundal height isint always accurate.. My doctor put me into a panic when she told me i wad measuring far too large.. Then when i came in the next time i was measuring normal

  • Ok thanks. I didn't think it was a big deal, but she told me we were gonna do an ultrasound. 2cm didn't seem much to me!
  • I'm also measuring to small and have an ultrasound later this week. But I'm also a small girl and everyone keeps saying its just because I'm small but I'm still worried.
  • I'm always measuring a week behind and my midwife hasn't been concerned

At 24weels I was measuring 28cm, they scheduled me for an ultrasound for my then next appointment which was at 28 weeks. Turns baby had just gone through a growth spurt and was laying funny when she measured me. Everything is fine, fundal height is notorious for being in accurate. Hope that helps ease your mind a little bit
  • I think I was about 1.5-2 weeks behind last time.  I can't believe it is accurate becuase if the baby is laying weird it would make you bigger/smaller.
  • I just went in today and it measured the same as two weeks ago, although this week the number was on target. She said it's probably just the way the baby is positioned, and since I've measured ahead in the past she's not concerned. She did say, though, that if there's no growth next appt (2 weeks) then she'd schedule tests, but she's thinking everything's fine and baby is just positioned differently. I wouldn't be too concerned! Wait and see what happens at your next appt!
  • I was right on track last time but today I had my 30 week appointment and I'm measuring 27.5 inches. :/ They didn't seem to think it was a big deal though.
  • What is fundal height.?
  • That's exactly what happened with me. Last time it was fine. I'm not too worried just wondered if I was alone. Fundal height is the measurement they do at every appt where they measure the top of your uterus to your pubic bone.
  • Im 28 weeks and measured 33 weeks today. .. going in for an U/S tomorrow...two weeks ago i was 2 weeks bigger...now being 5 weeks bigger there is concern. Will update after U/S.
  • Measuring isn't an exact science. I've been measuring 3-4 weeks ahead for the last 3 appointments. If there is any worry your doctor will have you go in for an ultrasound to check things out, with my daughter they were worried about the amniotic fluid levels because I was measuring so big one time but it all turned out ok. Try to stay calm, I know it's not easy!! Best wishes to you!
  • Sounds like nothing to worry about - probably just your doctor being overly cautious. My midwife told me it was normal to be 2 centimeters more/less than the number of weeks you currently are.

  • Am always measured the right number of weeks
  • Okay so i had my U/S andy baby is happy, active and healthy...only measuring a couple days ahead of my actual gestation...not the 5 weeks that my fundal height measurement indicated. Moral of the story...dont put too much stock in fundal height measurements.....but im glad the midwife measured wrong...because i got to see my little girl again.
  • My OB measured me yesterday, and said I'm measuring 3cm ahead, and said I was measuring 3cm ahead last visit. Naturally I google, and now I'm freaked out. Everything from just a big baby, to cleft palette, down syndrome or other birth defects. I've been having nonstress tests 2x a week, and fluid checks once a week. My fluid is great, and u/s tech always comments on how big baby looks. New U/S scheduled for April 1st for a check up on baby. Uneventful pregnancy so far, until this. Ugh!!
  • I'm measuring about 2 to 3 weeks ahead, and we know what day I got pregnant. So ob is sending me for another ultrasound to see what baby measures and see how far the ultrasound says I am along. At a/s I was 19w2d and baby was measuring 19w3d on some things and 19w4d on others. So she's positive I'm actually on track but thinking we have a big baby on the way. Bf was a big baby.
  • This is my third pregnancy and my fundal height always drops off later in pregnancy. The dr said ultrasound is more accurate and bc I'm high risk they monitor me that way. Dr said there are varying factors including the position of baby, the shape of your uterus, and if you have belly fat. Try not to worry. If they are concerned, they will order an ultrasound. :)
