gestational diabetes?

I just found out I have gestational diabetes I'm having trouble finding meals to eat. Any ideas I can cook for dinner and lunch?

Re: gestational diabetes?

  • Try a few things out that you would usually eat. Look for low carb noodles such as dream fields pasta. There are low carb tortillas and bread too. Eat a lot of protein and green veggies. My favorite dinner is taco salad. Just meat, seasoning, cheese, lettuce, onion, and a little ranch. I also just found I can add Doritos to it and it wont spike my sugar. I eat enchiladas and pair it with a salad and lots of meat. Like I said try things you usually eat for the first week. trial and error. Also for me I cant have milk so if you make mashed potatoes I would use heavy cream or half and half. Cuts a lot of carbs. Good luck and feel free to message me any time. This is my second time with GD. Also buy Atkins bars and shakes. Awesome net carbs.

  • I try to eat as normal as I can, but I just cut back on the carbs I'm eating.  Make sure you still include the recommended carbs.  It won't help to cut them out completely.

Since my son loves McDonald's and Wendy's, I will get a burger, but skip the fries.  I get a side salad instead.

Many times I've had a burger without the top of the bun.  I basically have a type of protein (steak, chicken, etc); a side of carbs (I can do any type of potato and my numbers are fine as long as I measure out the right amount), and veggies or a salad.

    Good luck!

  • I find that I am still eating the same foods, just different portion sizing. Like for a dinner of grilled chicken, veggies, and baked potatoes.... I have more chicken and veggies, and less potatoes. its important to still eat carbs, just the right kind (whole grains, pasta with fiber, etc).
