Postural Plagiocephaly?

Anyone else get threatened with the helmet? We just went to LO two month checkup Tuesday and his head was in the 98 percentile at 16.4 in. He sleeps so great at night but that has caused a flat spot on the right back side of his whittle head :(

He hates tummy time but doc says he has to do it more and he has to sleep on the left side. If it isn't better by his 4 month check he will prescribe him a helmet.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Re: Postural Plagiocephaly?

  • Our doctor mentioned this but said it was doubtful he would need it. What does your LO sleep in? Mine sleeps in a rock and play and I'm wondering if that's making matters worse. I've just been trying to put him in our front carrier as much as possible.

  • LO sleeps in his crib or his pack n play at night. Sometimes he naps in his swing during the day. I didn't notice how he always lays with his head in the same position until doc said something. I also didn't notice the flat spot until doc said something. Now I'm freaking about it.
  • My doctor prescribed a helmet for one of our girls.... She has a flat spot, but I really don't think that it's that bad. It's definitely not at all as bad as the pictures I found on google when researching helmets.
In any case, when I look at her head I don't see any reason for her to have a helmet. I think that the particular pediatrician in the practice we go to is a flake anyway.
