FTM question

im 30 weeks and 4 days, I do have a short cervix and was put on partial bed rest. I got my car seat, was wondering when I should install it. I have no idea what's a good time. I'm thinking sooner the better. Hubby says to wait. Wondering what other mothers done.

Re: FTM question

  • There's no harm in putting it in now! I'll probably wait until April to put mine in.

  • Im due May 23rd and im having mine professionally installed on march 16th. We are in the 3rd trimester...you dont know when ur baby will come. Im paranoid about installing because i knew someone who lost their daughter in a car accident because they didnt install the seat correctly. I have no problem riding around with the car seat.
  • Yes I think I will too. I was going to install it myself then get it inspected.
  • Wait? You can get it professionally installed? Will a dealership do that?
  • Seatcheck.org and then enter your zip code to find free car seat checks in your area. We have a couple hospitals with regular seat check hours. They set up in the parking garage.

No harm in doing it now and you definitely want it in and checked ahead of time. That's a good reminder for me!

  • Having them install it is a great idea, however I installed it and then had them check it.  I thought this was good because there are times we need to take it out so its good to know how to do it.  We will probably put ours in sometime in April.  I will only put the base in and keep the bucket inside.  Just because I'm paranoid and IF I get in an accident then the base will have to be replaced but not the whole seat.

Around here they will also check the seat WITH the child in it which is a great idea because so many people don't strap their child in correctly.  I will probably do this with both DD and DS when he comes.
  • if you haven't installed a car seat before, Id go ahead and try it. Maybe not keep it installed but at least to get the hang of it. We likely wont install our carseat until 39 weeks or the day I go into labour because its really second nature to us. But I remember the first time we tried installing it and it took a while to figure it out and get it in so that it wasnt wiggling.
