Food

How much is your LO actually eating? I read threads and feel like I am behind on the food... DD always hated purees and prefers to self feed. I put things on her tray but she will nibble then give it to the dog or just throw it on the floor. I don't feel like she is actually even eating that much. Now that we are coming up on the big 1 year old I feel like she should be eating more.... And I feel like she is barely eating and not getting protein in. She still loves her milk and has been FF, we recently switched to 1/2 WCM and 1/2 Formula this week.

Re: Food

  • I think if she were hungry enough she would eat. Maybe you should ask her pedi about cutting back the amount of liquid oz that she's eating to encourage more solids? I read in baby 411 that at a year they should really only need around 16-18oz of WCM throughout the day. That doesn't seem like much to me, but I guess it's normal.
    Good luck!

  • Dd eats three full meals a day, almost as much as my three year old son (sometimes more if he's being picky). But she is an unusually good eater for her age and loves food of any sort. I think as long as you are offering new things frequently and encouraging it you're fine. At the one year appointment your doctor should talk more about food

  • I offer my LO 3 meals and occasionally a snack or two. Sometimes he eats most of it, sometimes it's a game. He's not interested in WCM, but loves water and Motts for Tots juice.

  • We're in the same boat as you. I've given up on the purées because all he wanted to do was grab the spoon. But I have no idea how much solid food he's actually ingesting. Pretty sure the dog is ingesting most of it! He still gets 35oz of formula per day, and is offered WCM twice a day with meals. I don't think I can just cut him off cold turkey on his first birthday!
  • DD is getting more finger foods, but I still give her 1-2 pureed baby foods a day too. She eats more than my very picky 3 year old on  normal day! Last night she was loving eating the sausage and noodle that he wouldn't eat lol!

I still give her super tiny like pea size pieces though. I feel like I may be a bit crazy and maybe shoudl trust in her chewing ability a bit more but I get too scared that she might choke!

My lo eats 2 jars of pureed fruits and vegetables, a jar of pureed meat, a snack or two, and some of whatever we are eating. He's a piggy! Forgot to add: I also mix in baby cereal to his purees because he likes them thicker and he nurses throughout the day and usually 1-3 times through the night. We have offered sippy cups of water, WCM, and juice but he's only ever drank the juice and I didn't want him to turn down WCM when I wean him so we've backed off of giving him juice for now.
  • We offer 3 meals and a snack (at least in daycare days). I have no idea how much she is eating- it seems to be a ton (though a lot ends up on the floor) and she is still drinking 30 oz of formula! I think once she gets more coordinated and can get more in her mouth that will change. I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing until i talk with the pedi at her 12 month.
  • LO is getting at least 4 oz of food at each meal (in puree form) plus puffs or whatever other finger foods he's offered.  He's starting to drink less from his bottles (used to drink 16 oz a day at daycare but now barely takes 10, then comes home and nurses a ton).  He's waking up more frequently the last two weeks at night, though, to eat, so I'm not sure what's going on with the daytime bottles.
