period-like cramping

Hi Ladies!
Since this morning I've been experiencing period-like cramping in my lower abdomen and my lower back. I tried to call my doctor, but they haven't been answering.

I'm currently 26 and a half weeks, and I'm just curious if any of you have experienced cramps like this? I know it's probably nothing to worry about, that my doctor would just tell me it's round ligament pain (that's her answer for everything), but I was also wondering if it may be braxton hicks? It's a pretty steady pain though which makes me think it's not. Just looking for your own experiences until I can get ahold of my doctor (hopefully they'll answer their phone tomorrow)

  • In my experience, Braxton Hicks aren't painful, just a bit uncomfortable. Are you bleeding/spotting at all? Try increasing your water intake until you get in touch with your doctor. Try not to stress too much. Keep us posted!
  • I have an 'irritable uterus,' which showed up in previous pregnancies around 26 weeks. This sounds exactly like what I went through. Have you gone through pregnancy before? As time went on, my cramps progressed into labor contractions and they often lasted for an hour or so, continuously throughout the day. I was put on bed rest with Baby #1, but since I never dilated, bled, or had my water break, I learned to do my best to ignore it second round.

It is worth going in for a check-up to ensure that you aren't dilating, especially if it ebbs and flows like regular contractions. Good luck!

I've been experiencing something similar. I feel like between my belly button and my vagina I'm having cramping. Not painful cramps by any means but the kind you get before you start your period. They last all night though. I did some research and it's not contractions because they don't hurt, haha, and it doesn't sound like Braxton hicks because I don't really think my stomach is tightening like it says it would. I'm thinking it's RLP but so far my RLP has just been on one side at a time and they're more so sharp pains rather than the painless ones I'm feeling now.

I have a doctors appointment Wednesday and plan on asking my doctor. I'd almost bet money it's RLP but as a FTM I'll ask anyway just for peace of mind.
  • I'm having this too. See my midwife in Friday.
  • I had this earlier this week. Called my dr and they had me drink lots of water and lay on my left side for an hour to see if it would stop. When it didn't I had to come in to make sure I wasn't in preterm labor. Everything ended up being okay but it's best to call your doctor and get everything checked out! They said I just needed to rest more and if it got worse to come back in.
