Need advice on my 5 year old !

Hello!
So besides from expecting my little man in May, I've been trying to teach my 5 year old how to wipe herself after using the toilet without using a whole roll of toilet paper. And tbh it is getting very frustrating!
She's very clean and a huge germ a phobe (like her daddy) and whenever she goes to the bathroom wether it's number one or two she uses half a roll of toilet paper to make sure she's clean and dry down there. I've tried explaining to her that she doesn't need to use that much and showed her how to fold the TP and such in ways where she only needs to use a little.. but since the bathroom isn't somewhere we watch her to closely she just uses as much as she wants anyways and it has gotten to the point where she's clogged almost every toilet in our house and I don't know what to do!!!!
Any advice or suggestions on how I can teach her to use less??
It's starting to drive me crrraaazzzyyy! haha.
Thanks!!

  • I had the same problem with my daughter. I ended up having to tear it for her and limit her tp supply. Sounds aweful but I was buying TP like every 2-3 days for her bathroom. Start going to the bathroom with her. I know it's a hassle, but she has to learn somehow. my 5yo is FINALLY starting to get the idea. My MIL only lets her use 2 pieces for pee, and then 3 pieces at a time for her bum til shes clean. Then of course handwashing! She has never clogged her toilet with her method.

  • We taught our little girl with the same method as your MIL. she is ro only use 2 for a pee and 3 for a poop. Then flush and double check to make sure clean if not do it again. Once clear. Flush and wash hands. It has worked great! Less toilet paper used and no more clogged toilets
  • Yeah I feel like I'm always out of TP! I've tried going to the bathroom with her and limiting her supply but she sneaks in again after and uses more!! Ahhh but I do like the idea of 2 and 3 pieces at a time. It's something hubby and I are going to just have to keep on her about!
  • My husband has this problem. Like, I'm not joking- we buy it from Sams Club every 2 weeks ($30) and it's just us two that use it. Like, really?? I'm terrified of teaching our 2 year old how to wipe herself for fear she'll be like dad.

Have you considered offering her wetwipes/baby wipes in lieu of TP? Not sure it's a cheaper option but it mght help break the excess tp habit for a while, and then you can transition back to TP
  • I'm teaching my son to wipe as well. After he clogged the toilette a few times, this has been the routine: 1) I drew a line on the wall with tape so he knows when to tear off the paper. 2) he can only use 3 of these TP pieces. 3) he has to call me to check his bottom and the amount of toilett paper before he can flush. 4) wash hands. 5) star sticker on a wall chart! It's a lot, but I'm hopping it'll pay off when the baby gets here! He's also only 3.5 yrs old and takes things very literally so I wanted to be as specific as possible. Good luck!!
  • Would she feel cleaner if she used wet wipes? Say, do the two or three pieces thing, then one wet wipe, so she can know she's "washed" clean.
  • My son just turned 4 and he is a super clean kid. I tare off 3 sheets of tp and leave it on the counter. He also gets one can do wipe for after the tp to make sure he is clean. He calls me in whe he goes poop so I can check and we can set up for next time. He has been potty trained since 2 1/2 but he is so worried about being clean wiping is more difficult then with his big brother. Good luck!
