I'm sure this has been covered but....

Packing the hospital bag thing. I'm curious about the pad situation? What brand and all that did you bring with you ? I loathe pads and have been avoiding it. Lol I know the hospital supplies some things but I figured I would try to ask directly instead of trying to google. I know if I don't start throwing stuff in the bag now I won't have it packed on time. Did you all pack like nipple cream or anything like that either ?

Re: I'm sure this has been covered but....

  • Don't bring any, the hospital will provide them. You most likely won't need nipple cream but they do provide that as well. Take some home with you! And take their pads too! They also will give you mesh underwear. So gross, but I do recommend you take for the first 3-4 days post partum. After that, you can use your granny panties. Such a beautiful time...

  • You don't need to take pads to the hospital, but buy some to have at home. You'll need the biggest most absorbent kind, and then some thinner ones once the bleeding slows. Lovely.

  • They will give you super pads and some to take home. Make sure to also take home the basins they put in the bassinet, they come in handy and get tossed if you don't take them. As do the diapers, wipes and shampoo. They will remind you to take it too. They will also give you gel nipple pads if you want, they feel good and soothing and are like $10 in the store.
  • Yeah - I think that was the one big thing I didn't know the first time - is that the hospital will provide so many things!  Take those lovely mesh panties and pads they offer, extra diapers for baby, etc. If you're breast feeding, you may also get some breast pump items, nipple shields, etc. to take home.

  • Yep like the ladies are saying you won't need to take pads to the hospital. They will give you some and definitely take them with you. I also remember them giving me hospital type Tucks pads to clean your lady parts. Take those too

Basically take as much as you can for you and the baby. It really helped having those supplies after I left the hospital.

FYI I used Kotex overnights after I ran out of the hospital ones. And used Hanes panties...no need to mess up my Vickies lol
  • I know everyone keeps saying this but I just had a hospit tour and they told me to bring pads. They do provide the mesh undies but if I am not as heavy she said most women prefer their own pads to the hospital brand. I prefer Kotex overnights. There are certain brands that make me chafe and Kotex is one that does not, so I will be taking my own.
  • Im interested to know whether the NHS offers all the stuff you get. I'm guessing not considering our financial issues but definitely a question to ask!

    Unless anyone knows?
