With DS, the doctors only brought it up as something to get post delivery while still in the hospital... Now the question was posed to get in third trimester or right after delivery... Guidelines always change so I thought it would be an interesting poll to see what people plan to do.

Interesting poll for sure - I just thought I would throw down a note regarding what the current recommendation is as a general FYI, thats all.
I asked my Dr about it and she said to get it in the 3rd trimester, so I'm doing that. I haven't really had any vaccines updated since I've been an adult so I should probably do it anyways. Apparently I will also have to update my MMR vaccine, too, but if I recall correctly that's after baby comes. I'll ask when I go next week
My OB said with pertussis being so prevalent they now recommend each pregnancy getting the tdap. I had my last 2.5 years ago with my last pregnancy and it should last, but doctor said its just best to get EVeRY pregnancy to protect baby. So I'm getting mine at my 29 week appointment for sure. Sign on my door will read I got my tdap have you? Not allowed near my baby unless you have. Pertussis is awful!
I tried to talk to my OB about it and he told me it was just a recent thing "they" were doing to get more money. I was really displeased with his attitude! I'll have to find another way to get vaccines for myself and my family until baby comes! I'm hoping he's pleasant when I talk to him about getting a prescription for a breast pump through insurance!

So the family practice doctors office would pay around $27 for a pack of $10 dtap vaccinations for adults... Then they would charge like $10 for the vaccine and another $5 for administering it... So you could go to a family practice clinic schedule just to receive a vaccination from the nurse (if you are established) and be charged as low as $15... not a really expensive vaccine... People aren't making big money... However, they might charge more to make up for the more expensive vaccines they have to cover that never get covered or that insurance companies won't pay full price for... This is all just guessed and estimates I have no 100% knowledge. Just thought I'd show people aren't actually making "tons" of money on vaccines...
Looks like needles and syringes aren't covered in those costs either so the doctor would have to pay for that too. Oh and sharps disposal fee... We had special guys come pick up biohazard stuff and that cost money too. And pay his staff hourly... So other costs are included for why they charge a little more...

Well it is a recent change in the guidelines so it's not like he just made it up. I wouldn't be so quick to write him off as not a real doctor.

It is recent, when I was pregnant with DD 5 years ago I asked if I could get it while pregnant, I knew I needed it. They said that I could not get it while pregnant and would have to wait till baby was born. I got it soon after she was born. Even with DS 2 1/2 years ago, I think I remember reading they had already changed the recommendation, but my provider never brought it up and I didn't get it. Interested to see if they bring it up this time. Honestly not sure what I will do. I am a huge believer in following the CDC schedule for vaccines and get the flu shot every year pregnant/nursing or not. But my only hesitation is that it is so recent, I don't know.
When my almost 9 year old son was born, his pediatrician gave me a Tdap shot for free when he got his dTap, so while I know the recommendation for getting it during the third trimester is new, the idea of protecting yourself to protect your child is not. I know he's a real doctor, lol, but he can be a little dismissive about my concerns. It's like he forgets that this is only my second baby, even if it's his two-thousandth.
Yeah 3 years ago they told me I could only get it after he was born so that is what I did... This year they just presented the new guidelines and told me to read them over and make a decision but they were completely fine with waiting until after delivery like it has been done in the recent past.

They told me that 5 years ago too. That was the last time I got my booster.
This link says to give it during pregnancy (2011). I don't think it is so much that your doc thinks it's a recent scam, @amradio, it's more that he expressed his conspiracy theory to you, and didn't take you seriously. That would make me really irritated!
This fact sheet also says pertussis tends not to be very seasonal, but if there is a season, it's summer into fall. I was hoping to avoid most paranoia about illness with a summer baby, but I guess that's not going to happen!
Re: TDap Shot
2nd round exp 8/20/18.
Can a Tdap really be that much of a cash cow?
