Just seeing if you've made any plans yet now that we're all about half way through or close.
Baby shower plans, nursery plans, shopping plans, maternity leave plans, childcare plans, you know... all the fun necessities and what not...
So, what are your plans?! ![]()
Re: GTKY: Plans edition
I hate making plans. I'm a wing-it type of person.
I'm not handling anything with baby shower. My mom and MIL are doing all that stuff...I think they'll do it in April/May timeframe. The nursery is still a big debate. I can't figure out what i'm happy with, or what will look good together. It's annoying the piss out of me. I already got one can of paint, but I don't know if I'm happy with it. Now that we know it's a boy, I just might go with blue and have chevron print accents and stuff. ( I love chevrons... ) The only thing is, the trim in our house is wood with a reddish stain on it. I'm not sure how that'll look together?! Shopping happens as it happens. I got a stroller and some clothes. I'd really like to get the car seat out of the way and then I'll leave the rest for the shower to see what happens. I'm probably not going to do maternity leave until I go into labor....childcare we're screwed on...IDK what else?! So many plans to be made!
Child care. Found a small day care I like. On a wait list. Need to find other places for back up
Haven't started on the nursery or bought any furniture. Have thrown around a few ideas on layout but that could change depending on what furniture I end up with
Maternity leave. Definitely taking 12 weeks. Husband is taking 2 weeks
I'm planning on quitting when baby comes and taking a few months off, then finding a part time job. I know I'm one of those mamas who does better with some "time off".
My mom and MIL are hosting the shower so I guess I'll just be showing up!
All I've gotten is a few pairs of baby leggings/pants in neutral colors, some crib sheets and a blanket. Oh and the pack N play I wanted because it was 50% off!
Curious how it works for you because I've considered 12 weeks also. Are you using any vacation time? Our FMLA gives us 12 weeks, and I get 13 days PTO. I've already used 5 days due to a cold and the flu and I have a week of vacation scheduled in May. I'm worried about what'll happen if I need days off after I return from maternity leave to care of the baby. How does it work for you, or are you saving vacation time?
@sekomides - score on the pack and play! I need to find one of those also. Funny thing, the first thing the popped in my head before I even finished reading what you said for circus theme was Water for elephants. That will be awesome!!!
@koalaknuckles - Precisely why I hate making plans too! NEVER fails that they don't work out! I get what you mean about the baby shower thing too. I don't really even want one. I remember my bridal shower was so awkward, or atleast... I felt awkward. I don't know why. But between my fam and DHs fam I knew I wasn't going to win the battle of not having one. Oh well, like you said, atleast I don't have to stress over it. LOL! That's way cool of your SO to do the stay at home dad thing, too!
that's exactly what I want! The all-in-one type thing!! Where did you find that at such a good price!? Need it! lol
Nursery plans: the nursery has been painted and the furniture is up. I also bought a rug, so I guess all that's left is figuring out curtains, decorations, organization, etc. and I probably want to add a bookcase too.
Shopping plans: nothing planned really... May buy a few more essentials if there are good sales, but I'm going to try to limit myself on purchases until after the shower.
Maternity leave plans: need to finalize this. I would like to take all 12 weeks, but that would put me back to work in mid-October which gets to be quite a busy time at work. I may think about taking 10 weeks off and then come back part time for a couple weeks. Leaning toward taking all 12 weeks if we can afford it (part of it will be unpaid after std and pto/sick leave runs out). Still need to decide for sure.
Childcare plans: we have daycare lined up at an in home provider. She is actually a distant relative and several of my friends take their kids there, so I am feeling comfortable with our choice.
@asherk
Sounds complicated, I hope it all works out and everything falls into place in the best interest of you! That would be great if your H could handle taking care of the baby so you don't need to do daycare!
