cows milk?

DS is almost 11 months old I have been giving him organic vitamin d milk here and there out of a straw sippy for about 2 weeks. Is anyone else started doing this? He hasn't seemed to have any issues and likes it. Not sure when I will fully transition. Thought I wouldn't be able to wait to stop breastfeeding but as the year is creeping up I'm already missing me and my babe time.

Re: cows milk?

  • I've given LO homo (whole) milk during snack time this past week. I'm hoping that introducing it slowly to him will help the transition. Not sure about the organic vitamin D though, I've never heard of it.

Same here, I breastfeed LO, but every few days give my LO a tiny bit of cow milk. He doesn't seem to have any issues with it physically, but he did hit the bottle out of my hand yesterday and dive it to my shirt after the other morning. I have a feeling weaning is going to be difficult for both of us. I plan to wean at one year but it's bittersweet.

  • Is it bad to give whole milk to 10 month old. My doctor sort of gave me crap for wanting to switch from exclusively BF..
  • This is a good post as I was just wondering the same thing! I'm a bit worried about dairy in general as I've seen spit ups after BF when I've had too much dairy so I'm hesitant to have her try it herself- outside of yogurt dots which she seems to love. Introducing dairy this week with a little yogurt and cheese. I was planning on transitioning at 12 months but now that I'll be back to work FT for that last month thinking about stopping at 11 months and creeping in whole milk.

Has anyone thought or read about almond milk and its benefits? It's all we've used for 3 years so I was just curious.
  • Yes I thought about almond milk but somewhere I read it still doesn't have the fats that cows milk has so you would have to suppliment with other things. But asking your Dr would be the best idea!
  • Yeah I was reading more about the fat content- will ask anyway and report back!!
