Thoughts on Wesley and middle name suggestions?

Thinking about the name Wesley for our boy. What are your thoughts on this name? I like that we could call him Wesley or Wes. I also like that it isn't widely used, but isn't way out there, either. If you do like it, I would love some middle name suggestions. Our last name is two syllables and starts with an R. Thanks!!

  • Wow! Thanks- that is quite an extensive list!! I love a lot of those suggestions! Wesley Blake is very strong in my opinion and would go well with our two syllable last name. Wesley Vaughn is well, cool- makes me think of Vincer Vaughn/ lol. Thanks again!
  • Please don't pair Wesley with Blake. It doesn't go well at all. Wesley should be paired with a strong classic name. John, Michael, James, or something along those lines.
  • My mom really likes James as a middle name and I did think of Wesley James - and like that. I think I gravitated toward Blake because my first two sons have very traditional names- Jonathan Roger and Andrew Joseph. While I like their names, I kind of "settled" on them because of DH- so I am kind of shying away from anything too traditional. But, since Wesley isn't super traditional, I could use a traditional middle name. Thanks for your input! (P.s. Sorry/ I just wrote "traditional" way too many times for one comment- lol!
  • LOVE Wesley Vaughn.  I'm NAF of Wesley...only because the Wesley's I knew were huge trouble-maker, druggies in my small town.  Since moving out of that small town, I've grown to like the name in general though.

  • Maladroit- it's funny because I don't think I've ever even met a Wesley, I just like the name. But, you knew multiple ones who were drug dealers?? So weird. It's not like a thug name, is it? I kind if think of Wesleys as pretty clean cut.

I know, right?  Small town, though...Preston is another name that I typically think of as upper-crust and preppy, but not in my strange hometown...

I haven't been back in 10 years...for good reason, but I've liked the name since and all the Wesleys since. :)

  • Wow- the Prestons are thugs, too, in your old town?? I thought Prestons only ended up at Harvard- lol! Glad you got out of that place!! Glad you like the name and the Wesleys now! Thanks for making me laugh!
  • @Shickmama Anytime. ;) Such a weird town.  The ones that DID go to college had names like Dani lynn, Nicole(me), and Nate - which aren't exactly screaming high-achieving. LOL.

  • I had an ex boyfriend names Wesley and he was a bit of a trouble maker and druggie too. However, I don't think it's an awful name. Not very common that's for sure. Although I do agree with @LuvLoveXo that it should be paired with something like James, John etc to have the same kind of feel as your other two sons names

I've already posted my suggestions, but I just wanted to add that when I hear the name Wesley I think of The Princess Bride :)

ETA: Although, it seems that character's name is actually Westley (with a T) but that's still a variant of Wesley and pronounced similarly.

  • Thanks, everyone for all your great input! Really good middle name suggestions to go with Wesley. We aren't sure yet, If it's the name we will use for sure, but both DH and I like it, which is very hard to find- ugh!! Are there a lot of Welseys that are druggies out there, though?? Lol!

I really wouldn't worry too much about this. If you don't have a negative association with the name, then it shouldn't matter.

  • I like Wesley a lot. It's one of my husband's family names and on our list. :)
  • Thanks, Brita 722- you're exactly right!
  • Dancingmatilda- awesome! Let me know if you decide to use it. I do like it a lot- I am just so indecisive and a name is a big decision, of course!
  • Wesley was our boy name, but we are having a girl. His name was going to be Wesley Ryan (husbands name) :)
  • I love Wesley! You got some good mn suggestions, and I too like Wesley Blake (Wesley is not an out-there name.. Really doesn't *need* a super classic mn IMO)
  • Thanks, everyone!! Wesley is winning vs. Parker (by a lot) in my name poll I posted- lol. DH and I agree (to at least consider both), so thought I would put it to the polls. I appreciate all your feedback. You all suggested some amazing middle names!!
  • Brita722- I just saw your comment about The Princess Bride- lol- that makes this an even better name because my DH loves that movie!
  • Ooh I had the biggest crush on a Wesley in third grade *swoon* Don't know what happened to him (but I don't think it involved drugs or thugs lol)

Wesley Vaughn sounds like a super cool kid
