High-Risk Pregnancy

Gestational diabetes.. The risks of early labor?

Hello! I'm 31 weeks and was diagnosed with GD at 25 weeks and have since then been on the strict diet. The beginning of it my levels weren't bad, but as I progressed my levels got worse even with diet and exercise and so my dr recently put me on Gluberide 5mg at night before dinner and my fasting levels are STILL high! The past 3 days I've been having horrible shooting pains up in "my area" about at least 5 to 6 times per day, plus my Braxton hicks have increased in number and my baby has dropped a lot! So my question is, does GD typically or commonly cause early labor and are all these pains and the baby dropping so soon signs that I may go early? I'm a little scared because I know the risks of respiratory distress on GD babies and don't want my son to come too soon!

  • I'm a third time gd momma and my OB has never expressed a concern or worry for early labor.

  • I would let your OB know. They may have to adjust your meds. I am a diabetic pre pregnancy and by that time, I know I was taking 3 or 4 times more insulin. My OB was never concerned about early labor either. They were more concerenced about delivering after the due date.
  • I had GD with my first pregnancy :-) I'm now 24 weeks with my 4th my son was induced Labour at 39 weeks they told me from the second I was diagnosed that I was going to be induced as there is risks for baby and mother the further along you are! I'm sure all will be fine :-) good luck
