Wondering what everyone's opinion is on massage during pregnancy? I've heard so many different answers, but I just want to make sure it's safe. Some say to wait until the second trimester?
My doc said to wait until the second trimester. And once I mentioned it to my regular place, they wouldn't see me at all in the first trimester. I could really use one right now and I miss it.
I used to work at a spa and as long as it is ok with your Dr a prenatal massage is fine. I was told by my ob nurse that I can even get chiropractic care for my hip and pelvic problem.
Wait until you're at 12 weeks. My best friend is a massage therapist and was telling me just the other day that if you get a massage while still in your first trimester your body can recognize the baby as a toxin and try to flush it. She won't work on anyone still in their first trimester for the safety of their baby. I would say err on the side of caution for a few more weeks!
Thanks so much ladies!!! I'll wait until I'm in my second trimester. I could really use one now too! I'm surprised how uncomfortable my back is already.
I saw the chiropractor yesterday who recommended massage therapy as a way to work through my back problems while pregnant (I was on meds before that are not safe during pregnancy). He did make special mention that I should not get a deep tissue massage until the second trimester, but that something lighter would be okay. OB seemed fine with it and also okay-ed lidocaine injections. It may just be because of how severe my back issues can get, though.
Agree with @itslizzietime hubs & I had a couples massage booked for Valentine's Day (booked before we found out we are expecting). We told the spa that we just found out about being pregnant & they said they don't do massages during the first trimester, so I had a facial instead
I have been getting one once a week for over a year and found out I was pregnant. I told my therapist and she said she would simply avoid the pressure points that could induce labor. (Ankles and hands). Plus she said she is comfortable working on me since my body is use to the messages and it wouldn't be a shock for me. I would ask your doctor before anyone on here though, and use your own judgement. You could also just ask for a neck and shoulder massage...
