FTM... Thin and fingertip

I'm 38 weeks 5 days. Today my Dr. did a check and said "thinned and a finger". What does this mean? Lol. My boyfriend wouldn't quit talking and then the Dr. was rushed out.
If he was referring to dialation... How long do FTM's generally take to progress?

    Your cervix is thinning out and you're a fingertip dilated.

    I was a fingertip dilated last week at 36 weeks. I'm wondering if I've progressed in a week but I know dilation means nothing. ultimately she will come when she's ready.

    You can walk around for weeks the same or go into labor tonight. There is no way to know.

    I was 1 cm dilated on thursday and started contractions at 5AM Saturday. By the time I got to hospital at 8:15 , I was 9 cm. I am a STM though the first time I had to get induced.

    Have you had cervical pain and pressure like your vag is going to fall out? I hope you go into labor! This pregnancy thing is so hard on me.

    I too was a fingertip dilated at 36 weeks, and 1 cm at 38. With my first baby, I was 1 cm the day before I went into labor. Dilation and effacement mean nothing until you have regular contractions.
