pets acting weird? ;)

I'm 7 wks with my first. I have 2 cats and a small dog. So far I'm noticing my cat biskit feels the need to be on my stomach constantly! Not to mention they are all being bad. Coincidence?

Re: pets acting weird? ;)

  • They know hun. I have a lab and I think she knew I was pregnant before I did lol. It's their way of protecting you. I can't even go to the toilet without my dog sitting outside and waiting.

  • I have a lab and she also knew before I did.. Had to lay on my lap on the couch (which is usually not allowed). Now she constantly just needs to be by me.
  • I Had To Give Away My Dog Because She Was So Protective Of Me She Would Constantly Bite My Husband. I'mStill Heartbroken...
  • My cat has been the same way. Extra attached at the hip to me. Glad Im not the only one. Crazy cat lady over here. ;)
  • Our cat was my husbands for several years before I moved in. She normally doesn't care for me (no matter how hard I tried, lol). She would always flinch when I tried to pet her.
Since I've become pregnant, she comes to me occasionally asking to be pet, kneeding me, and letting me really pet her without flinching. Its weird!
  • Yup! Our cats are attached to my hip now. They won't leave me alone. Lol.
  • My cat always has to be on my stomach or right next to me. She follows me wherever I go and if I go to the bathroom and close the door without her being inside, she sits outside and cries.
  • We have three papillons and our oldest loves pregnant women. When pregnant friends would come over, he would sit on the couch and stare at their stomachs and be extra affectionate toward them. Since my pregnancy he has become extra attached, never wants me to leave the house, and won't leave my side.
  • My pup is usually attached to my hip, he follows my from room to room and stays by my side, but he never used to be much of a cuddler! He would sit next to me and want to be petted, but now he curls up against me and tries to get as close as he can. It's adorable and uncomfortable (especially during hot flashes, lol). He has also started growling/barking at things outside, which he never did, and he even growls at my husband when he comes into a dark room where we are laying.

My dog will not leave my side and even my other dog, who isn't much of a cuddler and often hides out in the closet by himself, has been extra sweet. We recently moved into a new house and I wasn't sure if it was that or the baby!
  • My dog has been acting weird too. She seems to be very concerned about every move I make. If she is not laying right on top of me, she is laying right beside me. It is strange how they sense things!
  • That's funny you mentioned pets, a week before I found out, my cat was acting weird. She found one of my husbands socks and was carrying it around like a kitten, she also would lick it and play with it alittle. At night she wasn't bothering me with her usual craziness, she was laying next to me and on me. I thought her behavior was really strange, it wasn't until a few days after I found out I'm pregnant that it all made sense.
  • I also have 2 labs!! But can't shower or go to the bathroom without them by my side even if my husband is home and in the living room!!
  • I have two cats, one of which is usually pretty unfriendly. I'm 8 weeks along now, and for the last 3 weeks or so she sits on me EVERY night without fail... Great for me to have her nearby, but I can only put it down to her knowing, it's so out of character!
  • Yep, my cat has been by my side and meowing like crazy all the time. Here's a pic of him curled up next to me which is pretty much 24/7, because he was already pretty loving before. On the other hand, my other cat actually ran away not too soon before I found out ... I was told maybe he knew and that's why he left, who really knows, though. :(
  • With my first born my husband had 2 cats (they are now outside on grandma's farm) they pee'd on anything that was mine...uggs, my side of the bed, all of my clothes lol it was not fun. That was 5 years ago, now our family has two female cats and they are so loving and protective of me!
  • My boyfriend is out for the night, and our roommate had a friend come over who hasn't been to the house before. My dog would not stop barking and growling at him, and was sitting next to me, shaking and growling. I had to get up and stand next to this guy while he gave her treats before she would stop. So weird. She usually loves strangers!
  • My dog always needs to be with me, more so than usual. If I am laying down she is on top of me (she is a small dog, only weighs 7 lbs). I went over to my mother-in-laws and her do which usually pays zero attention to me constantly wants me to pet her. It is weird how animals know. I personally love it.
  • About three or four weeks ago, my mini-dachshund (who has always slept in bed with us, but favored sleeping with my husband) started sleeping up against my stomach. On several occasions, she has climbed up onto my side, and slept on the side of my stomach. My husband has been a little jealous. I honestly hadn't made a connection until I saw this thread. That's too weird.
  • My cat is constantly laying on my tummy and following me around.  She did the same with my first pregnancy.  Animals just know.

  • My 10 year old cat has never been affectionate or wanted to sit/lay with me. Normally, I'm lucky to pet her without her glaring and leaving her spot. The last few weeks she follows me around and climbs in my lap whenever I sit down! I'm loving it! My other cat and two dogs are no different than normal. They are very affectionate normally so I was shocked when my old cat was the one to "know". Animals are so interesting ☺️
  • My cats love to snuggle with me more, and the one thinks he needs to sleep on my shoulder at night. If we lock them out of the bedroom, he will paw/scratch at the door, just to get to be next to me in bed.
  • My 5 month old pup was obsessed with me from the day we took her home, so I haven't really noticed a change in her. My horses don't give a shit.
  • My grumpy cat, raji has never been cuddly.... He bites when touched half the time. But he's Laying here purring today. :)
  • I have a big 80lb chocolate lab who has NEVER been a cuddler -- but ever since I found out in February, he has been obsessed with sitting next to me, lying next to me, hanging out with me. He has to be where I am, touching me, under my chair, whatever. It was so weird!
  • We have a male Great Dane and a female boxer (we rescued her recently from a back yard breeder). They have been glued to my side which is unusual. Especially the boxer...maybe because she has had puppies? It's sweet but I keep tripping over them because they lay down at my feet whenever I stop walking for a minute
  • I'm probably about 9 or so weeks and my dogs are always trying to be near me and my 3 year old. They sit and lay by my door at night until I get up in the morning. It's cute but so annoying. And they follow me to the bathroom.
  • Hmmm...neither of my dogs have seemed to change at all. One of my dogs is super needy and kind of oblivious, so I wouldnt expect any different. But my other dog is really smart and intuitive, so its odd that she hasnt picked up on anything yet.

    Pregnancy Ticker

  • I have a little dog whose always stuck to my side but she now gets right in my face and sniffs me almost putting her nose up my nostril. She is stuck to me in the bed at night and on my lap otherwise. I'd like to think she knows:-)
  • I can't get my cat off my bed she never let us play with her and now she sleeps with me every night I wake up and she is right next to my face and this started before I even new I was pregnant.
