Help me please.........

I can't sleep. I've tried Benadryl, unisom, walsom, herbal teas, no caffeine, nothing works, nothing. For the past 5-6 weeks I'm lucky to get 3-4 hours at night. I can't sleep to nap I can't sleep at night I just CANNOT FRICKEN SLEEP. And quite frankly it's wearing on me. I detail cars, tractors and combines for a living I do lots of climbing and physical labor that should leave me
Wore out. Still, no sleep. In fact my job has become dangerous to me from a lack of it, I slip, I stumble, I fall, all the time from lack of coordination due to lack of sleep. I physically, mentally and emotionally cannot do this anymore. I've had all I can take. Any suggestions??? I'm 36+3 and I know it's close to being done but I have two other children and a husband I must be able to function for and not lose my cool constantly Cuz I'm exhausted.

  • I honestly don't have any ideas for you. I'm sorry, I'm going through the same thing. Insomnia wasn't an issue with my first baby but it has been a major problem with this pregnancy. I don't get it either, I should worn out by the time I lay down for bed since I'm juggling a home, a toddler, and a husband. (Just like you're juggling your life and work too!) Since I am unable to sleep regularly my husband and I have an unspoken deal where he will handle our toddler, animals, and the house for 20-30 min so I can chill out when I'm feeling overwhelmed or am ready to snap from the exhaustion. Sometimes, I can squeeze in a nap. Maybe that's something for you to try if you guys have the time? It can really help to just get a few minutes to yourself. Even to just cry...which I do. Lol. Good luck!

  • Yikes! That does sound miserable.  My snoogle pillow has really helped me get good sleep this pregnancy. I don't know if it'll make much difference to you at this point or not - those are hardcore tactics you've tried already :(
  • Lavender oil...ha. Sorry. I only sleep a couple hours at a time, but I get a siesta during the day to compensate. So, I have no great advice, unfortunately. A warm shower and lavender oil seem to wind me down some. My husband uses melatonin, and that has always worked for him.

I'll second the essential oils. I got a bottle of doTERRA Serenity on Amazon and rub 2-3 drops on the bottom of my feet at night (apparently feet have the biggest pores). I'm drowsy within a few minutes. I checked with my doctor before buying and she siad everything was good and to give it a try. Hope you get some sleep soon!

  • Some doctors have approved Ambien the prescription sleep aid when all else fails. I'm in the same boat and will be asking my ob tomorrow. Can't imagine having the strength for labor and caring for my baby when I can hardly function to care for myself anymore
  • I'm 38w and 1d. I have the same problem! And getting up almost every half hour to use the bathroom doesn't help it either. I've tried the teas but nothing. I worked until jan 30th b.c I could not do it anymore. I would find myself falling asleep at my desk. Maybe it's time to take that maternity leave ?? Idk if you plan on working after u give birth but I know as soon as I left it did help a lil. I get in a nap during the day and I don't feel as grouchy.
  • When I had insomnia I took Melatonin, I would take it about two hours before I went to bed and pass out. That was when I wasn't pregnant BUT now at 36 weeks and for a while now I struggle to sleep through the night but I find it easier to fall asleep during mid morning or afternoon hours.
  • Reading a Book really helps me. But it has to be an actual book- not reading off a phone/iPad. The light from those will keep you awake. Once I start reading I tend to fall asleep mid-sentence after a few pages. Then when I inevitably wake up a few hours later to pee, I just start reading again until I fall asleep. Good luck!
  • I am so sorry you are dealing with this! I have trouble falling asleep and bc of my bladder, I only sleep for a couple hours at a time. I have been unable to sleep on my side since the third trimester and have to sleep sitting up with multiple pillows. I find my best sleep, however, is on my reclining sofa with a pillow behind my back and head.
  • @jenfl0res , same thing here. Once I went on leave I find that if I take my shower a little later in the morning and lay down with no phone/tv I'm able to sleep for a while. I'm not sleeping good at night either so that nap really helps me feel refreshed and get through my day.
