Myfriend is having pregnancy issues due to her PCOS. I have heard that birth is genetic to the mother. My mom had a cyst on an ovary (which ruptured that ovary) and had a difficult time being pregnant. Should I expect the same?
Not all reproductive health issues are hereditary, and even hereditary issues can vary in severity. My mom sometimes went three months without a period before she ever had sex, had secondary infertility after I was born, and went through menepause in her early thirties. I have PCOS but conceived without intervention and my only problem during pregnancy was high blood pressure.
I know everyone says this, but the best way to assess your risks is to talk with your doctor. Get as much information as you can about family medical history so you can explain exactly what your concerns are, and your doctor can talk you through it. I had a blood test and an ultrasound around ovulation to confirm the PCOS.

No not at all. My mom is super fertile and her periods have been extremely regular and easy her entire life. I have endometriosis and cysts, I actually had a cyst rupture right around the time of implantation of this pregnancy and I'm due to deliver any day now. You may have a very easy time getting pregnant. Everyone is so different, just like every pregnancy, and every delivery is different.
