Prunes are supposed to help keep your bowels regular. I just enjoy eating them, they're very sweet, and kind of remind me of giant raisins. I've never heard anything in regards to them assisting delivery. I would suggest you Google it for more info or ask your doctor for their opinion. I have a feeling that's probably an old wive's tale, though.
@konacoffeebean I personally don't think they're any better than any other high fiber foods. That would be something the OP would have to come back and elaborate on. I just think they're yummy! But so are beans, etc.
I believe you are thinking of dates not prunes, a study just came out about eating 6 dates a day from 36 weeks on and increased incidence of going into natural labor and not needing pitocin augmentation during labor. It's worth reading up on if you're interested.

Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
I love dates as well, but that's a lot of dates! Those things aren't cheap! I usually put a 1/4- 1/2 cup of chopped dates into my oatmeal every morning.
Lol @mrsblack11. My friend actually sent me the clinical publication regarding it so there is some data surrounding labor but to honest be I didn't read the whole thing because I don't particularly care for prunes anyways.
I eat 2-3 prunes each night with my prenatals. Doc says it's a perfect routine because the vitamin C in them will help absob the iron best in my pills.
It also obviously helps keep things ... regular. Which hasn't been an issue!
