Decreased movement

Since fri I have noticed a decrease in movement. He still moves but not near as often and not as long as he usually use to. I'm planning to call the dr tomorrow but I'm wondering if maybe it has something to do with me having had a cold the past several days. Oh and I'm 28 1/2 weeks

Re: Decreased movement

  • Any movement is good movement. As long as your feeling any movement 10 times in an hour baby is okay. If your ever not feeling movement for a day do not hesitate to call the doctor.

  • Baby is running out of room to move a lot from here on out. So even if it feels like decreased movement, it may not be the case. There's just no room! Of course if you are worried, call your dr and ask.
  • This is really common for the beginning of the third trimester as baby runs out of room. Also doc told me that when baby gets situated head down and can't turn as easily they usually have a period of not as much movement as they adjust/acclimate to being stuck head down.
  • I noticed decreased movement around 28 weeks. It freaked me out because that's when kick counts usually start. I'm 30 weeks now and he won't stop moving! I love feeling him move around just not when I'm trying to sleep. I think they also have decreased movement during growth spurts.
  • When I was 27 weeks I noticed a decrease in movement as well. I called my doctor and she admitted me into labor and delivery (my baby is extremely active so it was very out of the norm from him to not move as much). They checked him and everything was fine. They said it is very normal this time of pregnancy, but to also call your doctor if you are feeling anxiety about it. You know your baby best, but more than likely your baby is perfectly healthy.

My doc said not to wait a full day but to call if I was concerned. There's probably no need to panic, but I would call your doctor and just get their opinion on whether you should go in for a scan.

If you have had regular movement since Friday, just not quite as intensive as before, then it could well be just a slight slow-down due to the baby getting a bit more cramped. But really, none of us know better than your doctor.

    Good luck!
  • 10 times in 2 hours.
Drink something cold and eat sugary stuff.
Lay on your back with your head propped. Or your side.
  • Thanks guys! I should remember this it's not my first but I never really noticed it with the other two. I think since I'm laying and sitting a lot the past few days I've noticed, hey he's not wiggling very much.
  • @backwoodsbarbie2k15 @chavez2685 @MissRissx3 @marijaa333 I am 3 weeks 4 days.. and reaallyy the kick count annoys me alot.. I have a question PLZ answer it♡♡♡♡... I've been really concerned about it.. the Q is: Do you mean guys that the baby must move atleast 10 times each hour in the day? Does that mean that I must feel the baby move almost all the day long? Today I've been counting baby movements each hour! This is really tiring.. I started counting because my baby was moving more before 2 days.. maybe he is bigger now thats why I dont feel his movements as much as 2 days ago.. I did an appointment tommorow to check if the baby is fine.. May u plz answer my questions ..Do u feel baby movements 10 times each hour? Do u feel him/her moving all the day long?
  • I had my doctors appt yesterday and I trust my doctors knowledge implicitly, he said that babies are not consistent with their movements as far as time a day every day until after 32 weeks and for me to just worry about my kick counts right before bed until I'm 32 weeks.
  • @Shanfrey82 so after 32 weeks, baby movements increase or dicrease?

I just meant that they become more consistent as far as when you notice the most movements at the certain times of the day. Before that he said the movements are more sporadic and not pattern like so a decrease may not actually be a decrease but just a change in movement, as long as you are feeling movement and doing kick counts right before bed, he wasn't worried at all. This is what my doctor said to me specifically, all doctors seems to have different opinions so go with whatever your doc or MW suggests :-)
  • Yeah I had my glucose test yesterday. After I got home she didn't move for a long time. I'm assuming she came down from that sugar high like I did and fell asleep. Take the babies busiest time of day, when she/he starts kicking, count 10 kicks in 2 hours.

No not each hour.  Baby has sleep cycles too.  You should be seeing a pattern to when baby is moving.  If you aren't feeling baby at those times start doing a kick count.
  • I have a cold now as well and am 29 weeks. I called my doc today bc she was moving around a lot this weekend but less so over the last couple days. My doc said when we don't feel well, baby also may not be as active so as long as there is some moving it's ok. Still so stressful though!
