Was in a car accident last night...

Got rear ended last night. I'm 10 weeks. We were stopped at a light, hit from behind and then pushed into the car in front of us. She was going about 35-40 mph. Baby seems to be fine so far. Called my doctor who said since it was a minor accident the baby is unlikely to be affected. No symptoms so far, except a sore neck. This is the first time I have been worried about miscarrying. I had a moment of hysterics right after we were hit, until the police officer told me that the accident wasn't bad enough to cause a miscarriage. I'm just worried because I didn't make sure my seat belt was low on my belly. Hoping I'm worried for nothing. My next appointment is on the 11th.

  • I'm glad it was minor and they you all are okay. I would trust your doctor and the police officer.

Didn't know I needed to wear my seatbelt any different. I really need to read a baby book, smh.
  • Oh honey i'm glad you and gummy bear are fine! I wouldn't worry too much, ive had so much bad luck this year.
Finally pregnant again after two miscarriages and im 11 wks 1 day. I got in two accidents already (read ended at a stoplight) and the second one i got hit going 70 mph on the highway (he was going 90) i slid out and smashed into the guard rail. I was so worried about miscarrying again but doctor says gummy bear looks okay!
  • This is stressful! It happened to me with my 1st! We were driving home from registering at Buy Buy Baby of all things! Thankfully everything was just fine. But the added stress was not fun. Hang in there!
  • With my first we got rear-ended by a semi truck when I was 7 months pregnant. It was scary, my stomach got super hard and tensed up but my princess was fine. Hope your neck feels better.
  • Same thing happened to me at 8, almost 9 weeks. It was raining outside and the car behind us hydroplaned and rear ended us and totaled his car. I was ok and I hope everything ends up good with you. It doesn't sound like a very high impact accident but I know how you feel, I was just as worried and freaking out!!
  • That's so scary! I'm sure you will be ok. Try not to stress too much.

  • Put your legs up and relax. I'm so sorry this happened! Car accidents are terrible when you're not pregnant. I deal with bad chronic pain, when my husband and I got rear ended a few months ago, I felt like an invalid for days. You and baby will be in my thoughts and prayers.

But I'm sure baby is fine. My friend's sister ran herself over with her car (yes, you read that right.) At sevenish months and her daughter was born perfectly healthy. The accident did send her into early labor, but she wasn't rear ended and was in her third trimester. So the circumstances were very different.
  • I'm so sorry. Take heart that both the officer and doctor are not concerned. No bleeding right? Rest up and take care of that neck. Go get checked by the general doc so if anything happens, it's on file for insurance.
    Rest and take heart dear.
  • Oh wow - scary!
My mom was in a car accident when she was 7 months pregnant with my sister - she was on an open country road in the middle of winter, and she lost control of the car. The road was almost pure ice. She ended up upside down, in a ditch, and couldn't get out!
After a while, a bus full of people stopped and they actually flipped the car over (it was a tiny Fiat), wished her a great day and left her there, pointing the wrong direction! She eventually got back in and drove home... My sister is a bit annoying but I'm sure it wasn't the accident that caused it. ;)
  • It's been a few days and no signs of a miscarriage. I think I'm fine. Thanks for all the words of support. Some of you have been through some really scary stuff. I'm really thankful this accident wasn't worse.
  • @majormayhem210 the same exact thing happened to me on the same exact day. I was so worries too- I didn't go to the ER but called a bunch of doctor friends who told me I should be ok if I'm not bleeding or hurting. I was so scared. I was able to joke with my DH that we need to mark this day down as the very first time we worried about the safety of our child for the next 50 years. good luck to us both! thanks to all the ladies who shared your own/others experiences to help us through it!

That is scary! I wish you both a peaceful mind. There is a lot there to protect your baby. Please try to relax as much as you can.

At 10 weeks your uterus and baby are still tucked down in your pelvic bones or not peeking up too far above that so there is some extra protection. Hopefully everything turns out fine.
  • I would have FREAKED OUT. That is sooo scary. I'm sorry you had to deal with that. I really hope baby is ok!! I'm sure baby's fine. But still... You have every right to be flipping out. I'd be a nervous wreck! Try not to stress too much though, most likely baby is perfectly fine. It's just really scary. Keep your head up and keep us updated girl! :)
  • Sorry that happen to you .. keep you in my prayers
