Skull deformed?

Hey guys, this is a pic of my 21 week ultrasound. I can't help but think that the back if the skull looks a bit deformed? Anyone else think so?

  • I have no idea what I'm supposed to see at this stage. I'm not trained to do so. Did you ultrasound tech or Dr. say anything about it? If not, don't worry.

  • If your ultrasound tech and your doctor weren't worried, i wouldn't be either. Babies are born without all of the pieces of their skull fused together so they can be a bit more malleable for delivery, so it could just be that they caught the plates at a weird angle.
  • I thought the last ultrasound looked like baby had a cleft lip and a strange looking skull. The tech said on her own baby looks good no cleft lip etc. So unless it is brought up by your doctor or ultrasound tech don't worry yourself. They are trained to know what a healthy baby looks like at each stage not us. Don't worry!
  • Try not to worry, if they are concerned they will tell you or you could ask them.
  • I'm no doc but I don't think that even looks like the back of the skull. I think it looks like the ute wall and u can't even see the skull. U get so many shadows and only parts of baby with these things. My profile of the baby looks like he has no arms at all but I know he's got them. I wouldn't worry at all.
  • I saw a weird dent area on our baby ultrasound around 15 weeks. When I asked my doctor she explained that some spots are soft spots and some areas are just the babies skull plates.
  • Baby's are still forming don't worry. :)
  • There's a lot of material that floats around in your amniotic fluid. Basically, they way ultrasounds work, they send waves through the fluid and the waves bounce back off the closest thing they find, which creates the image. You'll get that distortion if there is something in between the image and the wand. You'll see the cord in a lot of 4D facial images also.

  • They would have mentioned any issues at the appt. but bring the photo to your next visit and ask your OB or MW. I wouldn't stress it, it's one shot and they looked at the baby from many angles.

If you asked me everyone's ultrasound including myself looks super odd. Then if you can see a 3D version baby looks TOTALLY different. So i wouldn't worry because it's like such a rough draft of what the baby really looks like.

Yesss!! That is exactly what I was going to say, that does not look like the skull it looks like the uterus and the back of the skull is just dark from shadow
