Pregnant after 35

Nesting insanity

I'm a generally tidy person but my behavior as of late is a bit crazy.  I have very little energy to spare but seem to think it's reasonable to clean DH's Waterpik (I also forced him to buy a new toothbrush).  I've laundered the cushion covers in the living room, and attempted (and failed) multiple rounds of removing stubborn laundry stains.  I seem to be unable to tolerate not wiping down the kitchen cabinets at the moment.  And it's taking all the self-control I can muster to ignore the minor stains on the couch that will only get worse once LO is here.  Of course, I shall be recruiting DH in his spare time to get on mission to re-clean everything!

Have you been doing any nesting-related tasks that are unusual (or insane) for you?

Re: Nesting insanity

  • I need a bigger house. That's the conclusion I've come to in my nesting adventures. lol  It's actually listed. 2nd showing ever is tomorrow. We'll see. I do not have high hopes since the first was awful and it's the second time we've listed.  Ugh.  Now I'm a little bit afraid to even list because it's too much going on with a new baby coming in 3+ months!

So currently I have 5 bags of baby clothes sitting on top of my bedroom dresser, a new diaper bag, and new crib bedding. It's driving me INSANE but I have no where else to put it at the moment.  I have a swing, boppy pillow in my trunk.  I have a double stroller, carseat, extra base, twin bedroom furniture, and mattresses in my garage!  I have run out of space! We have to move our master down to the finished basement because this is our third child and we have a 3 bedroom house. I have to move our 2 yr old into our master to free up the nursery.  No major painting or anything.. but lots of moving furniture and redecorating.

I feel like I'm running out of time fast!  My house is a constant disaster because both kids seem to enjoy undoing everything right after I've done it.  lol My DD apparently needs ALL of her baby dolls out at the same time WITH diapers and wipes!  lol  I need a maid!

  • I'm not up to nesting yet, but with my eldest I vividly remember cleaning the back of the toilet with a toothbrush.

  • i never really got crazy with nesting cleaning.  I don't know why.  I just pretty much kept my normal cleaning routines.
  • I go from things not bothering me, to things bothering me but not doing anything about it, to actually doing things. I'm in the middle stage right now and making plans. The BIG one for me is the toothpaste splatter on the textured wall. It bugged me with the last pregnancy and I couldn't figure out how to clean it. I tried a lot of things without much luck. I'm already devising strategies for it this time. I'm probably going to buy a toothbrush just for cleaning and tackle it. And the urge to clean cabinets and doors isn't there yet, but I'm starting to notice the spots which usually don't bother me. I pinned something on Pinterest which went over how to clean it. I'm sure that will come in handy later.

  • We are living in a hotel right now because our apartment had to go through a major mold remediation process, which also required repainting, retiling and reflooring parts of various rooms. The project generated unbelievable amounts of dust all over the apartment. I've called in the cleaners (paid for by our landlord and her insurance co.) three times in as many weeks just to remove around 75% of the dust. Cleaning up the remainder awaits us when we go back this coming week, not to mention the fact that in moving our stuff around, they made a huge mess. I'm really not looking forward to (re)organizing everything. The whole situation is driving me absolutely nuts, and I think it's partly due to the nesting instinct which I normally don't have!
  • marijaa333 .  That sounds crazy.

I spent my whole day cleaning today.  The fiance and I live with my sister ... for now.  She does not do much cleaning at all, but she does contribute to the mess.  I couldn't believe all the filth I found today.  It drives me crazy.

Had three tubs of donated baby clothes.  Washed them all.  Did my and fiance's laundry as well.  Cleaned the kitchen and the bathroom.  Went through some paperwork.  Just go, go, go.  Tomorrow I plan to donate a bunch of stuff to Goodwill, clean the living room and decorate for St. Patrick's Day.  Also plan to clean out another dresser drawer for baby clothes.  (We won't have a nursery until we move in the fall.)

niknak1208 ... I feel your pain about needing a bigger place.  I got a nice package today from my family back east.  (My cousin had a baby girl about 18 months ago.)  I have a bobby pillow, some toys, blankets and clothes downstairs on the coffee table.  Not sure where I will put it.  It seems like everytime I clear something out, something else comes in!  I am totally grateful for all of it, for certain.  Just not sure how we'll make it all work.

  • I would like to invite @neonnoon over to my house to do whatever she wants. I will provide cleaning supplies.

  • Hey the Superman vision for dirt is not funny!  If my high-need parents weren't around right now, I'd be in the midst of scrubbing the tile grout in the kitchen and/or repainting the powder room @mattandlora
  • So we decided to re-do our master bath/closet before baby arrives 4/20. We are 2 weeks into project that is estimated for 4-6 weeks. We also need two weeks to refinish floors and get painting done, so that pushes us right up on due date. At first I was stressed about getting moved back into the space (we're in the guest space now, which is going to turn into oldest DS room). Now I realize that the whole house is covered on dust and wonder how I'll get it all cleaned between the time that they are done and this LO arrives. I'm banking on some good nesting energy - and please don't let this guy come early!

  • I'm in that stage where I have the superman vision to see the dirt, but I don't have the nesting energy to deal with it yet.

  • Here's a weird nesting thing which started for me in the last 1-2 weeks. I never want to leave home anymore. This happened with my last pregnancy too, but i don't remember how far along. Obviously I still leave the house to do necessary things, but i want to be home whenever possible now, like going home for lunch, or having my husband run errands

  • I think nesting has set in. I've vacuumed under all the furniture today and washed all the walls. All I wanna do is clean and then clean some more. Lol. But currently I'm sitting on the couch because my knees hurt from scooting around washing the walls, doors, and woodwork! I'm exhausted

  • Haha, we are updating our entire house. Last week I was scraping off ceiling texture. I'm determined to have this house looking good before the baby comes (July.) We also put in cabinets this weekend. I don't know if this is heavy duty nesting or what to call it. I just know it won't happen if it wait until after July!
