  I don't have any knowledge/experience on the subject. I hope you asked your doctor those questions during the visit... seems like important ones to discuss with your medical provider. Good luck.

  My oldest has only one kidney which actualy doesnt really affect him but we were referred to a pediatric urologist who has a specialty in kidneys. We were able to meet with him and ask questions and get info. Finding a specialist to talk to would be my reccomendation.

  I'm not aware of stuff with pelvic kidney, but my cousin's son was born with one of his kidneys fused to his spine. They let it go until this year, when they finally had it removed (he's 5 now). He's not able to play sports and he has to have a gluten free diet (somehow his gluten intolerance is related to the kidney, I'm not sure how though), but other than that he's a very happy and healthy little boy! I know, probably two different situations, but hopefully his positive outcome gives you some hope!

  Our little man also has a pelvic kidney (found at 20 Wk ultrasound). We had a second appt with perinatology at 23 weeks to confirm and discuss, and check kidney function. Our md told us that it is often undetected in people prior to anatomy scans being so advanced. (Ie. Many people will live their lives without even knowing about it- this made me feel better) We will meet with a pediatric urologist and monitor kidney function once our little man arrives (on his schedule), and they may prescribe antibiotics if he shows signs of infection (which would be caused by the kidney not draining properly). If he continues to have problems they may recommend surgery to correct draining, NOT to remove kidney. As long as it's functioning it is worth keeping. The specialist noted that our lo may want to avoid contact sports, as the pelvic kidney is not protected like most kidneys are (including our lo's other kidney which ascended properly).

  I definitely spoke to my doctor about this. Just trying to see if there's anyone in this community with personal experience.

  Thanks for the information CRucker1001. Our dr didn't seem concerned, but I am going to check and see if we can meet with a perinatologist to confirm and discuss further.

  It was definitely nice to have a longer discussion at the appt with perinatology. My OB is awesome, but we just felt more informed after the perinatology visit. We have a follow up ultrasound at 34 weeks to monitor, also. I'm not sure if they scheduled that for the kidney or because lo had a very slight fluid build up on his spine (unrelated to kidney). Peace of mind I think is what everyone is going for, which is so worth having! Hope any of this is helpful. Thanks for sharing. Although I wouldn't wish anything 'out of the ordinary' on anyone, it is nice to know we aren't alone.
