Are there any teachers out there? Have you told your principal yet/when is the right time to tell the principal? Have you told other coworkers yet? I'm only 8 weeks.
I have told some coworkers that I'm close to, and I've let my principal know. I am 8 weeks as well, but I know that rehiring is coming up and want them to be prepared if I go part time or take maternity leave. I teach at a Catholic school, so the environment is very pro-life and family-friendly, which is why I feel so comfortable sharing the news early. I miscarried my first baby and was so thankful to have the support of my school community!
I'm only 5 weeks, I'm waiting till I have a lot of appointments so they will understand why I'm asking for so many half days. DD was born in the summer it was easier.
I used to teach 1st grade before I had my first baby. I was going to wait until my second trimester to tell my coworkers and students, but one of my students asked me point blank if I was pregnant when I was 10 weeks. I couldn't lie, so I told my students that day and my coworkers the next day at a staff meeting.
I am a teacher as well. I am really unsure when I should tell my principal and department chair. I probably will wait until 12 weeks, which will be in mid April for me. Not sure though - as a teacher you are much more likely to have someone ask, since kids don't know that they should not. I want to ask a coworker when to tell my boss, but we haven't even told my parents yet. I feel like it is most fair to tell them early, and I want them to know why if I am leaving my kids alone to puke, but I will probably still wait until 12 weeks. I will have to see. I think most teachers at my building tell admin a little earlier (maybe 8 weeks?), and then tell everyone else at 12, but I don't want to tell coworkers until 12 weeks so I can't exactly ask.
I was just wondering this! I'm at 8 weeks...just found out expecting twins! So might start showing a little earlier than thought. I think I'm leaning to telling my principal sooner than later just bc I want to start talking long term subs. I'm a special ed teacher, so that adds a fun twist to someone hopping in, but hoping everything will work out as smoothly as possible!
I know, I don't just want JUST anyone subbing for my class. I am a high school math teacher. You can't just pull someone off the sub list and ask them to teach math!!!
I am also a high school math teacher. And another woman in my department is due in May. She is taking some leave this year and about a month next year (September). Since I am due in October it would be good to have them know so that we could maybe use the same person.
I teach second grade and plan to tell my administration the end of April or beginning of May. We get out in June and I want to give them a heads up but don't want to tell too early.
I told my partner teacher only because we were going in a field trip and needed someone to pair up with to take the kids on rides while I sat with the ones who didn't want to go.
My husband is a fifth grade teacher. I am almost 6 weeks & he has told his superintendent and done select coworkers. I know it's different for him since he won't be the one taking a lot of time off though. He has just worked there for 19 years so was excited to tell those he is close to!

Yes, I plan on spilling the beans in April after Spring Break. I will tell my family and close friends during Spring Break. We get out of school in mid June and return in late August. I hope to take maternity leave from late October until the New Year...it should work out perfectly fine
I'm a Texan 4th grade ELAR teacher and love love love it (even with my responsibility for 2 STAAR tests)! I have already told my team and my principal found out on her own through the grape vine. She has been super supportive and excited for me! I plan on taking 12 weeks maternity leave and then returning. I can't imagine not teaching for an entire year and it is very difficult to secure a position with our school district, so I really want to keep my spot.
I am an educational assistant at a small rural school. I told my principal right after I found out I was expecting. I have full trust in him to keep it a secret and I am glad that he knows why I am running to the washroom all the time. I have also told 2 other teachers in the building because I spend a lot of time with them. A couple of my high school students are starting to figure out that I am expecting - I will wait a few more weeks to spill the beans. I also plan on waiting until May or so before I send a letter to my superintendent.
