Baby Shower Gift for no registry or limited

Hi, I just wanted to know what are good gifts, if there is no registry or the registry is limited (Not much on it or left that I feel comfortable buying). I know there is always an option for gift cards, but I like to buy gifts, gift cards are my last resorts.

Any ideas or suggestions.

  •  I would go with something simple that you know they will need. Maybe choose a theme, like "bath time" and get baby shampoo, lotion, etc and a cute towel, wash cloths and a pack of rubber duckies. Or another theme, "bed time" you can get a blanket, pajamas, lavender body wash, nightlight, and a book.

  • Burp cloths. Like the plain white cloth diaper ones by Gerber, though if your budget allows, you could throw in a pack of the cutesy printed ones too.

Or a gift card. There's always something you don't think of/don't get at the shower

  • Your favorite baby/toddler books are always a nice personal gift, as long as you don't give something super-generic like "Goodnight Moon." (I actually love that one, but you know she'll get 3 other copies.) Or if you have some money to spend, one of my favorite baby gifts ever was a Citrus Lane subscription. I also love a nice classic keepsake baby cup or spoon from somewhere like Tiffany's since no one tends to give those anymore.
  • You have some great suggestions there. Also, if you know the name of the baby you could get a personalized bib/burp cloth or wall art. Most people get adorable outfits like tutus for girls or little suit/shirts for boys. Or just huge pack of wipes and diapers (or diaper cake). You can never have too many if those. Baby socks are also a cute gift. I've seen them done as cupcakes and roses.

  • NO I don't know the name of baby....I thought about doing a theme like bath time or bedtime....but either someone has already purchased from registry or it wasn't listed on registry. Also, not sure what brand people prefer for bathtime, so I'd hate to get it and they not like it.

I've already purchased a safety set, but she had it on 2 different registries, I wante dto

  • In that case, I'd do a few cute baby outfits, maybe in a few different sizes.

  • Eh, buy whatever you like and give her a gift receipt then if they don't want it, they can exchange it for something they end up needing. It's the thought that counts.

For bath stuff: Most people use give/use Johnson&Johnson soaps but my baby has sensitive skin so I buy California Baby, Aveeno or Aquafer soaps. They won't really know if their baby will have sensitive skin in advance so will use regular soap till there is a problem (much more affordable).

  • I tend to go for useful things that aren't a big deal if they're not to the parent's taste. I normally give a good quality bib, face cloths and a woolen singlet/onesie in whatever size will work for the nearest winter to baby's due date.

And then maybe something cute like a little rattle. (when I had a young baby I loved a couple of small wooden rattles that lived in my handbag and I could pull out if I ended up waiting with baby somewhere and entertain LO with. Wooden/plastic was good because they wash easily and didn't gather fluff in the bottom of my bag.)

  • I have no idea what she had on her registry or what your budget is, but my aunt bought us a rock n play for my shower and I wasn't registered for it. In fact, I had no idea what it was. That thing saved our sanity those first few months. Our son slept ah-mazing in it. Best gift we received along with the handmade gifts.

Other ideas: children's books // halo sleep sacks or woombie (these are awesome for swaddling in the middle of the night) // wubbanub pacifer // boogie wipes // piano play mat // white noise machine
  • Thanks, went to the shower, gave set of onesies (3-6 months), health kit (on registry), to go bath items, pacifier (which was on registry and to my surprise she stated during the shower, thanks, but I don't know if we will use these, I was thinking really you could have kept that comment to yourself) and also 2 books, oh and wipes that were on registry.

If there are still gifts on the registry, buy off of that, or do gift cards. I swear I know no one who enjoys getting rogue gifts at Showers (whether Bridal or Baby).

Whatever you do, don't buy clothes!

Love this. So true. If there's not much left in the registry and you are able to, I say you can never go wrong with a sterling silver baby rattle. So classy, almost never gets given anymore, and it is something they will keep forever and think of you, instead of bibs or things that get dirty and tossed. I bought one myself for my daughter as a Christening gift.
  • I 2nd the A&A swaddling blankets.  I almost always give those as gifts now.  They are so useful beyond swaddling, and cute to boot.  My 2yo still loves them, she sleeps with one every night.

We just got a box of A&A blankies hand-me-downed and they are amazing! Totally a great gift! You can't have too many blankets :)

Yikes, sorry the mama-to-be had a snarky comment. I think Shower gift opening is nerve-wracking, so I wouldn't take it personally. I am sure she loved your gifts! :)

I am not registering for clothes because people love buying baby clothes. I am not really concerned about what the clothes look like as long as they are season appropriate for the size the size.
  • bedtime theme, and my favourite items are baby deedee sleep sack, lite, sheets, one-piece pajama and more. Their sleep sacks really work when it comes to baby sleep. Baby deedee sleep nest is our no. one baby shower gift items. Love receiving all those beautiful thankyou notes..
  • My favorite off-registry gift at my shower was a large matted black Frame (probably Michaels, very simple and could go anywhere) and it came with a voucher for a baby photo shoot, images, and a 16x20 print to go in the frame... I might go a bit smaller if I was picking it out for my self, but that is just personal taste...
