This plus mom might end up naked for the next 5 months!

I'm having trouble finding plus sized maternity pants! The ones I do find are always sold out in my size! Grrrr!

Fellow plus mommas, where are you buying your maternity pants?

  • Try online if the main issue is your size is sold out, you may have better luck there. Motherhood has a plus size line, but I have not tried it, so not sure how it is. I am actually having issues with a lot of the shirts are big on the top but then they almost come in at the bottom and so they are tight around my hips/ass, which is not flattering. I try to get "flowy" shirts vs. fitted, but even the flowy ones I have tried lately seem to hug too tight on the bottom (and yes, I have tried larger sizes, the top fits or is too big and then the bottom is tight). Not fun gaining more :(
  • Yep not easy
  • I understand. Every store that has plus sizes has like 4 things to pick from. Uggggg.... I'm gonna order from old navy online and if they don't work I'll take them back.

  • Hi gals! I've been mostly online shopping. It seems to be slim pickings out there for plus sizes. I'm really getting uncomfortable in my regular pants. I tried a belly band which don't seem to work for me. The things I've found online always seem to be out of stock in my size. The Old Navy's within an hour radius of me do not carry maternity in stores anymore. It seems most maternity storefronts have closed. It's very frustrating! Even Amazon barely has any plus maternity. What gives? I'm sure I'm not the only plus pregnant woman on the planet!

Have you tried Target, Macy's, or Kohl's?

Those stores don't sell plus size maternity clothes. Or at least not what I would classify as plus size (only up to XL or maybe xxl).

It might not be an option for you, but if you can find someone who sews, I had my brother in law diy me some maternity jeans with my last pregnancy. We cutout the front and sewed in cotton fabric and elastic. It was actually a pretty easy project and there are tutorials on Pinterest. It was great for me because I am plus size AND tall (5'8"). I could not find pants that fit in size and length otherwise... I'm looking forward to getting some capris from motherhood this time around. It'll be different to have a summer pregnancy wardrobe this time. Good luck!

Both Kohl's and Macy's do online (haven't checked in store) and Target goes up to size 18 pants, so depends what size is needed.

This is definitely an option! I actually have sewing experience. My current schedule is nuts though, so, I may have to recruit my Mom to help me if I can't find anything soon.

I'm definitely going to check out Kohl's and Macy's. JC Penny has a small plus selection, but, my size was out of stock in every pant I looked at. Same with Target. Depending on the manufacturer, I'm either an 18 or 20. You wouldn't think it would be that hard!

I wear a 16/18 depending on the brand. I've been able to order XL from Motherhood Maternity and they me fit fine. You would probably be more than fine in a 1X from them. I just took a quick peak and they seem to have a pretty decent selection in that size, even in the clearance section. I would also think about looking at regular dresses and skirts in jersey or cotton. I have a few maxi dresses and skirts from Old Navy that I'm pretty sure will still fit just fine even with a belly because they are super stretchy and loose.
  • Just started maternity shopping and man its so much harder than i thought it would be.  I pictured all these lovely cute outfits and well none to be found.  The rubber band trick in my pants is helping me for sure but I know it wont last long.  Seems like when I popped, I have since begun to explode.  I think I will go with lots of maxis and dresses once the weather gets better.  Many friends have suggested to me to buy up a size or two and try to skip maternity as I have trouble finding stuff.
  • Try pink blush. I'm pretty sure I saw plus sizes.
  • I had problems finding ones that were "plus" and x-long.  I found some Old Navy ones, but they were sold out online and didn't carry them in the store.  So, I turned to Ebay.  Lucked out and got 2 pair!  Other than that, I don't have much advice...I only have the 2 pair...  Good Luck!!

I would try online shopping. maternity shopping for regular sizes is hard too! But motherhood seems to carry cute stuff and they def. have plus size. Hey just a quick random question- how do you ladies get those cute little baby size banners at the bottom of your replys?
Always hold on to hope ❤
  • I was at kohl's today and the selection of regular sized maternity clothing was abysmal. And there was zero plus size, underwear, or lounge ware.

  • I ordered mine from old navy (online). They have very little in the store, but lots online! The best part is that things fit true to size.

Targets plus size is really like plus size for juniors. I am wear their 18 plus stretch maternity jeans but that's it. I'm normally a 1x or 18 and I can't wear their dresses or shirts. Just got lucky with the one pair of jeans.

  • I would definitely check Motherhood. Their pants go up to 3x so you should be able to find some good options.
  • Yoga pants work wonders. They are stretchy and comfy. The season for dresses will soon be upon us as well. Something flowing will flatter your bump and won't be tight on it. I hope this helps!
  • I've had good luck online. Motherhood, JCPenny and Old Navy.
  • I'm usually a 18 and the xl at motherhood would not go over my butt but the 1x ate too big! I'm also petite so I am totally feeling your struggle!
  • I would recommend investing in some "waist cincher" belts. You can get very large shirts and fit them to an A line top with the belt. Its very cute. And leggings are your best friend. They are stretchy, can last you through multiple tri mesters and comfy after baby comes too. Rule of thumb with leggings= shirt must cover your hips/butt
  • Hi girls. Old navy has a sale through March 1. If you use the code 'preview' young et 30% off of your online order. I just ordered maternity clothes and they have plenty of sizes. If they don't work, the store will take them back. I'm hair sad this paycheck is mortgage paycheck and i couldn't buy more. :(

  • I have found a limited selection of plus up to 3x at Motherhood. Surprisingly, my best luck has been at Sears, and I'm loving the quality too. I'm one that hates to shop online for clothes because my size varies with each brand. I've ordered things that have been way too large or way too small, so I feel like I have to try it on. Best of luck!
  • Motherhood Maternity makes the best plus maternity pants. They aren't cheap, but a minimal group of jeans, khakis, and black pants will get you through most weeks! Good luck!!!

  • Gals! I'm so relieved! I went to Buy Buy Baby last night to try on a few pair of motherhood maternity pants. They do not carry plus sizes in stores. However, I found a pair of XL stretch dress pants and decided to try them to see how small they would be to get an idea of what size to buy online...and...they FIT! What?! I was stunned! I wish they had more than that one pair. I bought them immediately as well as a few tops. I'm going to go online and order the same pants in 1X which should carry me through the rest of the pregnancy! Yay!

Think I saw destination maternity has plus sizes online... haven't been to their store though

Lurking from June '15: I'm a true plus size, I wear a size 24 pant normally. Destination Maternity has been my best bet. I'm kind of between a 2x and 3x with them in pants, so their plus sizes run a smidge big. I bought a few shirts from Penny's online as well. Their shipping was kind of atrocious, it took a little over two weeks from when I placed the order till when it showed up, but the shirts fit pretty well for the most part. A couple were a little more snug than the others in a 2x.

The Target XXL shirts are too short for me, but I am long waisted, so I often have this issue not pregnant. I haven't tried the pants, just holding them up to my I can tell they wouldn't fit.

I haven't ordered anything from Old Navy except their maternity work out clothes. Those actually seem to run a little large. I  normally wear a XXL in the regular people's work out clothes and the maternity compression pants are pretty loose in the hips and legs. If I decide to order any more, I'll try the XL. I didn't see much by way of plus maternity for everyday clothes on ON's website. Half the clothes suggested where just regular plus sizes and not geared towards maternity, which doesn't help in the pants department. I thought about giving some of the XXL maternity sweaters a try, but as mentioned before with Target, I have a hard time with shirts being long enough in general, so I would need both tall and maternity in shirts to make it worth spending money on at ON.

Hope this helps a little and best of luck to you!

  • Motherhood's 3X jeans/dress pants/capris should get you through. Most of the shirts are ok, but not great. I really like Roaman's shirts...they're online, but their stuff is plus, long, and cute! Not really "maternity"...so you can wear it before/during/after pregnancy.
  • You know, you'd think a store like Lane Bryant would carry maternity for just this reason, but I guess they don't. They'd make a killing if they did.

Apparently they must have at some point because when I googled "plus sized maternity clothes" I found a bunch of blogs with links to Lane Bryant Maternity. When I clicked the links, they were expired webpages. So, I went straight to their website and nothing! Very disappointing! I did find Motherhood Maternity stretch dress pants that are very comfortable and I'm a smaller size than I thought I would be!
