SUA(single umbilical artery)?

Anyone experienced this before? Was everything OK? My ob said my baby was perfect on the ultrasound but I still have to see a high risk doc... Had severe pre eclampsia with first baby girl... Now bp is rising again! Just a little much to take in... Any mommas experience this with first or second pregnancies?

Re: SUA(single umbilical artery)?

  • I haven't, but if OB says baby is perfect, then you have every reason to think positively! I know you must be worried (understandably so), but try not to dwell on it too much. The high risk doctor will be able to provide you with the care you need. Praying that you continue to get good news!

  • I had a 2 vessel cord or SUA with DS. It wouldn't have been a problem if that were the only thing wrong, but he had other birth defects. SUA was the least of our worries. From my understanding you can have a completely heathy baby with one artery as it's carrying deoxygenated blood out instead of oxygenated blood. It can signify other birth defects though, so I'm glad you are seeing a high risk doctor.
  • My nephew had a single umbilical artery, basically my SIL had to get more ultrasounds done to monitor growth.  It never became a problem and she went into spontaneous labor in her 39th week.  He ended up being the biggest of her three boys, he was 7lb14oz and the picture of perfect health.  He's three now, so smart and NEVER stops moving!  He's great!
  • This is my first baby and i have a SUA. So far everything is fine-baby growth is normal. I am not too worried-the high risk label gives me more opportunites to see my little one b/c they are watching babys growth closely
  • I went to doctor Monday. I also was given the same news. Im scheduled for another ultrasound next Tuesday with specialist. I hope everything is ok.
  • I have no experience but I understand how seeing a high risk OB mid pregnancy would be worrisome. I hope everything goes well.
  • My first had SUA. Everything else looked good at the more advanced u/s, and he ended up being perfectly healthy.
  • I'm expecting twins and both have a SUA, Doc says babies look amazing, zero other markers present, and both ahead of the curve growth wise. I know initially (especially if you google search) it can scare you pretty bad.... if Doc says not to worry and everything looks great, then lets not worry and put babies in unnecessary stress as without a doubt that isnt good for them!
  • My OB told me on Wednesday that I have a SUA. This is my second and nothing about the cord was mentioned with my daughter. I have a follow-up with a high risk doc on Thursday...I'm a little nervous but trying not to stress or Google lol
