stress affecting the baby

I know everyone says stress affects the baby. But how much does it really? I'm trying to remain strong thru this hard time I'm facing but I'm crying every single day I've had about 2 anxiety attacks while crying in the past week, I feel so depressed and though I'm trying to remain strong because I heard it affects the baby its getting the best of me and I'm getting real scared something could happen.

Re: stress affecting the baby

  • I'm not a doctor so I can't speak to the effects of this on your baby, but I think seeing a therapist would be very helpful to you. It sounds like you're going through a lot and talking to someone might help give you some peace of mind.

  • Definitely second the PP!

And worrying about what stress does to your baby will just add to your stress. Make sure you talk to your doctor about how overwhelmed you're feeling and about the anxiety attacks.

And in the meantime, do what you can to relax! Do something different good for your mind, body and soul each day. And remember your hormones will be all over the place for the next few months, convincing you that things are worse then they are!

By taking care of yourself, you're taking care of your little one! Blessings chickie. Hope you feel better soon.
  • Yes, stress can harm a baby I'm sure. However, look at all the babies that are carried and born under extreme amounts of stress, like in countries that are at war, etc...people have perfectly fine babies everyday after being under a lot of stress. Worrying about stress harming your baby is counter productive. I agree that seeing a therapist might be helpful
  • You know, I actually read that a moderate amount of stress is good for baby's development. Obviously not chronic stress like during a time of war like pp mentioned, but some stress can be ok. You definitely want to limit the stress in your life, but try not to worry so much about the stress itself, just focus on getting better. :) I hope you feel better soon!
