Gestational Hypertension

There are a lot of people that talk about Pre-E but my doc is monitoring me for potential GH. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with it and what the outcome was. I am 36.5 weeks so I am a little worried if I do get the official diagnosis they will want to induce.

I have pre existing hypertension that is being controlled with oral medication. I am bein induced but I also have preexisting diabetes. My ob said the hypertension alone without complications is not a need to induce.

Your doctor may make a different decision you really need to have a thorough discussion with them about it. Every woman's body and pregnancy is different and your doc would know better what to do.

  • I was diagnosed with gestastional hypertension at 36 weeks. I was monitored and induced at 37 weeks. Your doctors will likely try other things before inducing (depending on how high your readings are) but because 37 weeks is considered full term my midwife made the decision to induce to avoid further complications
  • I was diagnosed with gestational hypertension at 33 weeks. From that point on it went downhill fast. By 35 weeks I was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia. My blood pressure just kept increasing and I ended up on 1200mg of blood pressure meds and was admitted to the hospital for the 2 weeks before I was induced. At 37 weeks the doctor had decided it was to risky and I had a c-section to deliver right away. Hopefully you just stay with gestational hypertension so that you don't need to be induced or have a c-section.

  • So sorry @CityChic414 that doesn't sound like a good experience... Luckily I have stayed at GH but because I am considered term as of Thursday they are inducing me then. They did say though that I can absolutely still deliver vaginally so I am hoping to avoid the c-section since the baby is still doing great and doesn't seem to have any side effects from my GH.
