Induction

Hello ladies, my due date is on March 3rd and my doctor asked me if I wanted to get induced at my 39 week appointment and we decided to get induced on March 3rd if baby doesn't decide to come out until then.
When he checked me he just said that my cervix had softened and I was 2 cm dilated.
I've read that people have a better chance of getting a c-section of induced and I hope that is not the case for me.
What are your birth experiences.
Was your induction experience a good one or bad?
Would love to hear your stories.

Re: Induction

  • It's so exciting that all the babies are coming so soon! :)

We just had a really great conversation about this topic. It's still on the first page. It's titled Induction Experiences?

Yeah check out the other thread. There are lots of good answers and stories on that one. I put my story on there. I started at a 0 dilation when induced and ended up having my son about 5 or 6 hours later without requiring a c section. I was over 41 weeks though.

  • I'm due on March 3rd too. Went in this morning and dr said likliehood of c section bc of induction as a FTM was much greater so I decided to hold off until my next scheduled appt on 3/6. I'm 2cm too an opted to have my membranes stripped so hopefully that gets the party started :)
  • With my first I was induced and he was born 9 hours later. My second was induced this Wednesday and he made his appearance in less than 5 hours. Both times I ended up getting an episiotomy as well because their heart rates dropped to scary numbers as I was pushing. Much smaller cut this second time though. We never had any concerns for c-sections though as my body progressed along fine with induction. Both times I was also already at least 3 cm dilated and 80% effaced.

I think it's a personal choice you should make with your doctor. If you have any doubts or don't feel comfortable then don't be talked into doing it. The first induction was due to medical problems. I choose to be induced this time and would probably choose it again with future children.
