Lazy left boob!

Hi, I'm a first time mom to a one week old little boy! I can't seem to fill his tummy when feeding on the left! The right boob fills him up and puts him to sleep for hours! So I decided to pump both breasts to see how much was coming out and I got one ounce out of the left and four ounces out of the right! How can I balance this out? Or am I just doomed to have one porn star right boob and a lazy no good left boob forever?

Re: Lazy left boob!

  • When he is hungry offer him the left side first and let him continue to suck even tho your milk may be gone. If he's not sucking your body won't know to increase supply. Make sure your drinking lots of water.
Im facing a similar issue, except baby just prefers eating on right and will rarely latch on the left. Good luck!

  • Thank you so much! Good luck as well!! :)
  • DD is older, bit I've noticed similar low supply on my left side over the last month or so. As PP has recommended, I've started offering the left first more often (not every time, but probably every 2 out of 3) and I've noticed an improvement on her being satiated and also my output when pumping.
  • Im the same, left only pumps 1-2 0z and right does 4-5oz in the morning.  I offer the left side  and he empties it.  I don't see a balancing out yet but hope to see it soon!

  • My right boob is lazy and has a lower supply. I've tried everything and I have finally accepted that I will be lopsided :)
  • Same problem here. A friend of mine had the same issue, she said to always offer the less producing breast first and to then pump it in addition after feeding. Let you know how this pans out for me.
  • My Left does better, and when it doesnt, I assume blockage. When its a significant difference, I assume blockage. I am taking Lecithin and tracking nursing and output now, so hopefully it evens out over all. FTM Nursing twins.... good luck to you!

  • I agree with offering the left first. Also, I asked my lactation consultant about this because I have the same issue and she said it's completely normal. Just like most women have one breast slightly larger than the other, most women will have one side produce slightly more milk than the other.
