Does anyone have any tips on how to deal with/ what to do for migraines?! I'm 27 weeks and am getting them at least once a week now and they are terrible. Any advice is appreciated:)
My doctor has ok'd me to take my migraine prescription while pregnant, he's specially worked with many patients that take the same medicine for blood pressure, and said that after consulting with a neurologist the only concern is being aware of blood pressure due to the medicine lowering blood pressure and that if I felt strange at all to go to the ER. I have not had to take it, knock on wood for no migraines! But you may want to talk to your doctor about it if you have a migraine prescription.
I started getting terrible migraines about 3 weeks ago and turns out I had low iron, turned up when I did my GD testing. Seems it's a pretty common thing around this point in pregnancy so maybe try taking iron supplements for a couple days to see if it gets better? Worth trying at least, I haven't had a migraine since I started taking them daily. Good luck and hope it gets better!
I've had them for years, and the only difference in how I handle them being pregnant is taking Tylenol instead of Advil. So as soon as I feel one coming on (I either get auras or it will start as a tension headache), I take some Tylenol and chug as much water as I can, take in some caffeine (either some dark chocolate, tea with caffeine or worst-case scenario, about 1/4 can of soda), and go lay down without a pillow with one ice pack behind my head and one on my forehead. If I do this all fast enough as I feel it coming on, I usually wake up an hour or two later with the migraine gone.
I do the same with the ice packs, it's seriously a huge help!! My DH even knows the drill of how much ice and how to wrap the packs in a towel so they sit just right. Freaking migraines. Ugh!! @saric83
I was given a prescription for migrane during pregnancy. ..it has acetaminophen, caffeine, and something else. It doesn't work very well mostly because I wait to take it because I am not sure if it is going to be a headache or a migraine. I also use ice packs and peppermint oil. But just finally caved a took a prescription for vicoden for when the pain peaks beyond what I can handle. I have only taken it once but it too was disappointing...The first hour it only took the edge off and the second it made me feel drunk in a bad way...like you can't stand up or function, but at least I was in pain anymore.
