underweight

I seem to be having troubles gaining weight. I am 31 weeks and 5 days pregnant and iv only gained 7 pounds so far. My baby was 2.1 pounds about 2 weeks ago and all i do is eat and sit around all day, i take short walks once a day to the store and back and thats it. What do i do? Is this normal?

Re: underweight

  • Did you ask your doctor?

  • My first pregnancy I had a hard time gaining weight. I only gained 18lbs total and most of it was in the last month or so. And she was a healthy baby at 7.1lbs. If your doctor isn't concerned you shouldn't worry, if they are concerned most likely they would give you instruction on what to do.
  • You don't measure the baby's health by your weight gain. As long as you're getting prenatal care & your Obgyn finds your baby within the appropriate length & weight..

K back to sleep I go
Insomnia had be thinking crazy to check what's going on here

  • As long as the baby is growing well it honestly does not matter at all if you aren't gaining weight.
A friend of mine lost weight (i think about 10 kgs in the end) due to terrible morning sickness throughout the entire pregnancy and her baby was fine, perfect length and size. I'd just be glad you don't have to deal with that!

If you are really really concerned ask your doctor about it next time you see them and they should be able to put any concerns to rest.
  • Tiff 420. Dont worry i lost close to 40lbs in my 1st and part of my second trimester due to overwhelming sickness. My doctor also suggested a healthy eating plan and walk everyday .therefore ive only gained like 10 of it back and my babe is measuring at 4 lbs so far . Dont worry just keep eating healthy and if the doctor suggests u eat higher calories then do it .every pregnancy is different
  • It all depends on your weight prepregnancy. Some women are actually told not to gain weight or even to loss weight if they start off overweight. The health of a pregnancy is not measured on the mother's weight gain, but on the baby's weight gain.
  • Well that makes me feel better. Im all so new to this stuff. My doc just said to pack on the calories pretty much so ill start with extra cheese and more small meals (:

    Awesome story.

Do they not allow gifs anymore? I feel like a cheeseburger should be inserted here or something. I miss the gif parties.

So back to your story... You realize being a first time mom isn't an excuse for not knowing something? There are many resources available, and crowd source is one of the least reliable. (i.e. See above comment with inaccurate information about weight loss) Your doctor told you what to do and that your baby was on track. If you don't trust them find someone that you do.
  • Sweet story, bruh.

Go drink a milkshake or something? I really don't know what you want from us, but this post sounds super braggy and annoying. If your doctor is concerned, then bring it up with him. If he's not concerned, then enjoy your skinniness and healthy baby. A bunch of third trimester pregnant women don't really want to hear about how skinny you are.

So because I'm a FTM, and have gained about the same as you is an acceptable excuse to not listen to my doctor that I am paying to tell me what is okay and what is not okay because I trust them? Because my baby is healthy and everything looks great my doctor must just be dummy right?.......oh and what @frownyface‌ said we don't name call and you have been reported for abuse.......because a FTM is not an excuse for ignorance and being oblivious to what your doctor tells you!

Oh and saying your underweight is an insult!! Have some sympathy for those who have gained more or even less and have real issues to deal with!!!
  • I just need to second what @kier23‌ said. Being a FTM is absolutely not a reason for ignorance. If you don't like what your doctor is telling you then open a book, any pregnancy book, and read it (an English/grammar book may also help you, but that's another issue). You might learn that baby's health is not dependent on your size.

And I also reported you for name calling because that's just not cool.
  • Man people on here are rude.. did your parents not teach you to shut your mouth if you had nothing nice to say !
@tiffr420 I'm 31 weeks and 4 days and I'm in the exact same boat. they tell you it's okay but it feels like you've done something wrong I've lost 5 lbs since being pregnant and she's only 2.5 lbs but healthy ! your doing everything right mama so don't stress , they gain 1/2 lb every week now our babe's will just be nice 7lbs:) hope that helps

  • My comments were removed and "I've been warned!" from this post as according to the TOU "you must not restrict or inhibit others from enjoying the site."....but posts like this seriously inhibit my ability to enjoy the site. So where is the violation tag on repetitive hair pets and SS posts?

I'm not a fan of the term motherfuckers in general but there is something extra tacky about using it on a pregnancy message board.

I need to remember to quote because the OP calling us all mfers has been removed and now this comment makes no sense... Oh well.

  • I have no idea how much I've gained ... Nor do I wish to find out , I kind of can't see my toes so how do I see numbers on the scales ? My baby is healthy and that's all I care , can we kill this post now ?
  • Im also 31 weeks and 5 days and i have only gained 8 total lbs. The most of that has been in the past month. Embrace it and be lucky. We arent gaining 40 plus lbs (no disrespect to those amazingly wonderful women that did and have). I know my baby is 'inside' more by my spine and ribs. I have the Worst rib pain for months now. Brings me to tears at times.
    You are FINE! :-)

So, the fact that I have gained more than 40 lbs makes me unlucky? At least I'm still respected and amazingly wonderful though.

  • I'm about to get myself banned.

I've started reporting things that stop me from enjoying my experience here on the bump ... I'll probably be banned in a week.

  • Ask your doctor. Also, I love how these posts conveniently don't ever mention starting weight or BMI. Someone who starts out at a healthy weight for their age should gain between 25-35 lbs. if you're overweight it's recommended that you gain less and if you're underweight it's recommended you gain more. But only your doctor can tell you if you're on track for you! Stop asking Internet strangers.
  • I've gained 12 pounds... it make pregnancy more difficult in my opinion because of the way we carry baby. Every movement is kicking a rib, spine, organ... there is no room for anything else in there. It's all baby so my stomach is about the size of a strawberry. Its like having gastric bypass then being yelled at for not gaining enough. I've had to supplement with ensure... but even those are almost too filling.
The doctor is monitoring everything, he's happy baby is growing and gaining... so other than being very uncomfortable, I'm not too worried.
