Is any other mommy- 2 be taking Zofran?

I started taking Zofran when the nausea was so bad I couldn't move without it getting worse. The Zofran really helped me be a functioning person again. But then one day I was watching tv and a commercial came on about a Zofran lawsuit geared toward women who had taken Zofran while pregnant. Of course I was concerned and asked my doctor what I should do and she said she hadn't heard of anything like that and Zofran was fine to take. I just wanted other opinions or if anyone has heard anything about it I would really appreciate the commentary and assistance. BTW I'm 10w today if that matters at all.

  • I saw that on tv too and was thinking what?! Several women on here take it! I would maybe just try to handle it before taking it anymore. Unless you really really need it! Hope you feel better!

  • I'm taking it and so far 8mg 3 times a day and everything looks fine. There's a 3-6% chance any baby can develop birth defects. Zofran would increase that number slightly, but is greater for those who are placed on a zofran pump during a majority of the pregnancy. Personally without Zofran my baby wouldn't stand a chance because of my Hyperemesis Gravidarum. Without Zofran I ended up in the ER twice for dehydration.
  • Yea I only take it when I absolutely need too. My doctor says she hasn't heard anything so that makes me feel better. I'm still losing weight but I'm told it's ok in the 1st trimester. Thanks for your responses ladies they are greatly appreciated.
  • I would take these commercials with a grain of salt. You see these for several drugs. Honestly i feel like they are just trying to scare people and make money. Jmo
  • I've been taking Zofran for a few weeks and it is a miracle the nausea is completely gone and I can get through the work day. Mine lasts all day. I only have to take it once in the morning and it lasts until bed time. I have friends that have taken it with every pregnancy some even 10 years ago. It's been used for a long time. My doc says that it is safe and that it doesn't increase your risks. Those lawyers on TV are always trying to go for the deep pocket in pharmaceutical companies.
  • Lucky you!!! I can't take it. It makes me puke!!!!!:(
  • I am taking it, and I literally could not survive without it some days. It's so bad that I can't even keep down fluids some days. :(

I feel like the first trimester is all about survival, and we gotta do what we gotta do.

I believe the issues with Zofran are mostly for the pumps, but the chances of birth defects are very low.

  • I'm 10w3d and have been taking ZOFRAN for 2 weeks. my doctor said it was fine and I know that my pregnant sister takes zofran as well. she took it in her first pregnancy and everything was fine.
  • it can make you constipated though so be careful! I have to take miralax if I want to take zofran :(
  • So the FDA actually recommends you NOT take zofran while pregnant due to the birth defects. It's a drug for chemotherapy and there are not many generations before us who took it. I would avoid it if at all possible. Ask for alternatives

Try the dissolvable kind.  It's honestly a miracle drug, IMO.  The swallowed-pill kind made me puke, but the kind that dissolves in your mouth without needing to swallow is amazingly helpful.

  • Has your doctor heard of diclegis? It is grade A in FDA approval from what my doctor told me. Meaning it is the absolute most safest pill ever made for pregnant woman with nausea. Studies show it does not effect the baby at all. Not sure if your doctor carries it but you should ask. It has worked and lasts long because it is a time release pill. It helped me get through my first trimester with ease. Unfortunately I traded nausea with headaches now. Hope this help. Good luck with your nausea. :(
  • I take this and it is amazing. 100% safe for pregnancy. Has an adorable prego mommy pic on the white pill to show its made for pregnant women. My doc swares by the stuff
  • Thank you everyone for your responses... it makes me feel better... although this isn't my first pregnancy, my son is going to be 7 in May, I haven't been pregnant for 7 yrs that's a lot of time to forget... haha... I don't think I could survive without the Zofran...
