Trying to Get Pregnant

Am I Doing Something Wrong?

My husband and I haven't been buckling down, but we've been allowing pregnancy to happen for about a year and a half now with no results. I have had some late periods, but I end up starting and it just depresses me. I don't smoke, drink alcohol, or drink coffee, but I am a little overweight. My husband smokes but he has cut back tremendously on his Mountain Dew intake. Still nothing. What else can I do to try to make this future bundle of joy happen? Yes, we have sex regularly, especially when I'm ovulating. Just need some advice.
Also, I am currently 11 dpo and about 8 days ago, I had some super minor, but constant, cramping start and it lasted for three days. (Days 3 dpo-6 dpo) what could that be?
Thank you!

  • If you haven't been preventing for over a year, it's time for a referral to a reproductive endocrinologist. How do you know you're having set in your fertile window? Are you temping to confirm? Cramping could be anything, but as implantation doesn't occur until 7-10 DPO, I woukdnt read too much into it.

Apps are crap unless they have a way for you to enter and chart your BBT. And your "body changes" are all secondary and may not be evidence of anything actually happening. Your body can gear up to O more than once in a month, but obviously you only ovulate once. Also, if you're talking about CM, you can get EWCM at any point in your cycle. As PP said, and I agree, you could be missing your window completely. However, since it's still been 18 months since you stopped preventing (even if you were just NTNP) I'd say it's time to see an RE.
  • I'm sorry you're going through this. Time to see a reproductive endocrinologist. Do not even bother with an OB. They will give you only some of the testing you need, they spread it out over months and they won't properly monitor you to prevent high order multiples on fertility meds.

  • It's probably time for you and your husband to think about if you want to pursue testing.

I have seen that your weight could have a huge influence in conceiving. https://tipsforgettingpregnant.org/do-overweight-women-have-more-difficulty-getting-pregnant/  . Good luck, and I must agree with TheBorg7of9 . You may want to talk to your doctor about testing.
  • Thank you so much for your help ladies! What would I have to have in order to see an RE?

Depends on your insurance. My old insurance, I would have had to go through my Ob, my new one I can self refer.
    Thank God for Raid.

  • Okay thank you. I will definitely look into it :)
  • I got a referral to a specialist after TTC unsuccessfully for a year. He sent us for testing (weekly blood tests to monitor hormone levels and confirm O etc) but also recommended losing some weight in the meantime. He recommended a low glycemic index diet which is basically a diabetic diet. Started following it in October, lost 10 lbs pretty quickly and bam! Got pregnant in December before we'd even seen the results of all the tests. I don't know if the weight loss had anything to do with it or we just got lucky but at least it's something you can start now while you wait to see someone!
  • I started a membership at a local gym last month. Can working out too often or the fact that I have never really worked out before, cause me to not be as fertile?
  • I would just like to say that not all apps are crap. Fertility Friend allows you to track BBT, CM, etc and really helps you pinpoint your O date. (Not a spokesperson for them ha but I'm sick of reading on here not to trust apps when many apps now analyze real data to predict and confirm ovulation). Good luck! It sounds like you are doing everything right!

Only if your workouts are so extreme that your period stops.
  • i am overweight at 266 right now my ob told me to loose 30 lbs this was before i found out i have type 2 diabeties caused by my weight.. i have my diabeties under control and my sugar levels are really good. i just need to focus my energy on loosing more weight and then discussing having a baby but at 34 i know my window is ticking
  • I'm at 224lbs right now. Haven't really talked to the doctor about my weight too much. (Have a male doctor currently and waiting until my insurance picks back up to switch to a female). I will be working out 6 out of 7 days a week but I am currently 2 days late this month so 8->
