Crib bumper

Hi girls. I've been reading about how crib bumpers are a big NO-NO and that they should never be used. However, I plan on having my baby sleep in my room in either a pack and play or bassinet for at least the first 3-4 months. When I do eventually use the crib, the bumper can be removed. But is it safe for say a 7-9 month baby? Any tips or recommendations are appreciated.

  • Nope. Don't use it. Not worth the risk.

  • If you have a set that came with one you can use it as a crib skirt instead.
  • Since I had one with my first I set it up so my newborn had some visual interest and the pictures of it were cute... That was ONLY when he was supervised and as soon as he started sleeping in his crib it was immediately removed and packed away. Totally not worth the risk at any age since when they get older it may help them climb out of the crib.

Once my baby was old enough to roll over on her own and sit up I used a mesh one. She is very active in the crib and was frequently having her legs/arms stuck in the rungs. I originally did not want one but she was up at least 4x a night with this issue. I would wait and see how you little one sleeps once she is older.

The breathable one was a waist of money just for looks probably. he would still bump his head or slide it down with his foot and get his foot in between the bars after having a baby i now know its not unsafe newborns dont move then as they get older they can move enough. This was a sids guess that i just think is silly id rather save my poor littles head lol

I am really confused by what you are trying to say... But if it's to use a bumper please reconsider and keep safety in mind!

You're right. A little bump on the head is totally worse than your baby being at risk of DYING from SIDS.

Also, your baby must be rolling with some serious force to cause so much as a bump... Sooo, good call. :-/

  • If you're looking for something cute- why not get a teething cover to go around the top? I've seen some really adorable ones on etsy for decent prices! Cute & safe!!
