I want to have spa day.

I want to take me and my boyfriend on a spa day because we both need a good relaxing day. But I am unsure if the spas places are allowed to do a spa treatment on a pregnant woman. If anyone knows much about spas places giving spas on a pregnant woman in saint Francois county Mo. Please let me know or a good ways we can have an relaxing weekend. Thanks.

There are certain spa treatments that pregnant women can't have, like wraps, and are suggested to not have, like exfoliation (due to the extra sensitivity of our skin). Also, you can't use the sauna or hot tub, if there is one. However, some better spas have treatments designed especially for pregnant women like prenatal massage. Check with the spa you want to use if they have any treatments like this, and that the masseuse has training in prenatal massage (there are certain pressure points to avoid). I personally have had a facial and a prenatal massage, and they were fantastic. I don't live near you so I can't recommend a place, but you should be able to find something

But before you do any of that, make sure your Dr has no concerns about you having any sort of spa treatment. Your Dr's office may also know of a place that you can go to. Mine actually gave me a certificate for a half hour prenatal massage as a gift.

  • Okay. Thanks for the advice.
  • Make sure if you a pedi or mani with your spa that the place is well ventilated!
  • My doctor's office actually recommended a prenatal massage, just make sure the masseuse knows what they're doing as certain pressure points can induce labor. I had a facial as well...just be sure that you go somewhere that they know what they're doing!
  • My only advice: take me with you!!!! ;)
  • Just call the spa and ask.
    Coffee Bean Born 6/13/15.
    2nd round exp 8/20/18.
    Meow.
  • I am 24 weeks now and take (60-70 grades Celsius) sauna every 2nd week. As I am worried about extra fat gains on my hips, I take deep leg massage twice a week since w14 . Also swimming twice a week. I think you should trust your feelings. Be carefull!
  • @ElinaS‌ where do you live? Such a hot sauna is not recommended by my doctor, but I used to go to the spa regularly and am really missing it. Did your doctor say this is ok, or are you just going on instinct?
  • Having a prenatal massage today at 2! Can't wait to get there early and relax in the waiting area with my girlfriends. The only restrictions on massages is you have to be out of your first tri. They asked when I made the appointment! Do it and enjoy!!!

  • #jealous i want a spa day away from everyone so badly!!!!
  • Yeah, that's really hot. Once I converted it to F (140° F) I saw it was almost 40° over the recommended highest temp my Dr would allow. The literature I read was talking about increased risk of birth defects due to temps higher than 102° F (Granted, most of it was also geared toward the 1st trimester, which we are all past now, but better safe than sorry, right?). My own Dr said not any higher than 104° F. So long as your Dr knows and is OK with it, then soak it up.

  • Just went for my massage and she double booked herself on accident :(
Positive side is that when I go next it'll be on her! I swear by them, it helps in so many ways!
  • I live in Europe (Latvia) and we are used to Russian type wet saunas. But as I have it at home, I am carefull - always have small mirrow opened, cold wet towel with me and we rain enough water on the stone oven to make it milder. Actually, >100y ago sauna was the only place where women had deliveries here on the countryside :)
  • Thanks for the response, @ElinaS‌ ! I love learning about how other cultures handle pregnancy and babies. A sauna at home - I am officially very jealous! Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and please enjoy a sauna session or two in my honor ;-)
